If Buck doesn't want players that aren't 100% committed then he should have kept quiet until after Taylor was sold. If it's common knowledge that he doesn't care if Taylor leaves, then that doesn't put Swansea in a very good negotiating position. Why would Newcastle offer any more money if they knew Swansea didn't want Taylor? This should have been kept between players and management.

This is one of those that could drag on and on though. And that is what's unsettling. Either stay or go, but make your mind up quickly.

But we don't have to sell him at that price, we tell the toons either double your offer with a sell on clause, or you will never see him again, then loan him to Cardiff for the season, we help them get promoted, and we get rid of a player that has shown a severe lack of class!

But if we send him out on loan he'll be worthless in a year's time. Better to get £1m now than £0 next year. I'm sure there'll be a sell-on clause for any young player with potential.

How can you say he will worth nothing if he goes out on loan ? Really if that does happen and he will have his chances to play and increase his value, to be honest I am sick of boyscout players and their agents dictating to the club what they want to do, the clubs are the employers here, the club can simply loan him out and get rid him in that way.

Bangkok I don’t think Buck has weakened our position here. Newcastle tabled a bid and it became public, its common knowledge in Swansea that his agent has been touting him around and making the clause in the contract known to anyone who was interested.
Buck has stated on numerous occasions that he does not want any players at the club who are not 100% committed to the cause so there is nothing new there.
As regards the clause, other posters have pointed out that it doesn’t mean we have to sell for £1M so his departure will be negotiated just like any other transfer deal.
This is another example of an agent doing what they do best or worst depending on your viewpoint, my viewpoint is they are parasites on the game.

I still maintain that We would still have needed another left back even if he stays. Bags of potential and that is it at the moment. I for one agree with Rogers. If he doesnt want to be here then F**k off. there will be an awful lot of left backs who would jump at the chance of playing for the Swans in the premier.

buck will do the right thing for swansea i have no doubt about that and if we can get more than a million for tailor that would be fantastic especially with sell on clause attached, but i do think some fans on here are over valuating the lad, yes he has had a above average season but he has also had some bad and mediocre games as well. i personally dont think he is worth a million that is just my opinion and im sure we can get better with the money we would get for him. i like the lad but for me he is to green and needs a few more seasons under his belt yet before i would consider him worth millions. i hope we get as much money as possible for him if he goes but to me even a million quid is a fantastic offer as i have a strong feeling watching him play that he is not yet ready to play against some of the best players in the world at this present time, it will be better for him if he carries on with us under the guidance of buck as he will never get a better tutor than him in introducing him slowly to top flight football. but if his head gets turned to the glamour of a big club then i feel he may come to regret his decision to leave as he ends up as many do in the reserves or even lower playing football in front of one man and his dog and that will never enhance his career. by staying with us he will keep on learning his trade as to be honest the lad still has a lot to learn and the best place for that is with swansea....good luck to him whatever happens or where he goes...

I think people are not looking at this from the player's pov (which is something I always try and do). He's come from non-league, gotten into the Swans side and performed well, and now Newcastle are looking to make him rich and offer him a place with a midtable club. With them he'd be on more money, playing for a bigger crowd, and they are likely to finish higher than us in the coming season - why wouldn't he at least want to talk to them and see what his options are?

I'd like to see him talk to them and then either we set the fee around the £3m mark, or he turns down the move and gets more first team footie with us. If he were to reject them out of hand it'd be a stupid move for his career and I'd worry about the player's intelligence.

It's the same with Pratley and how he needed to look at all offers. With us in the Premiership he can walk away knowing he can be replaced - it's not just a selfish move for more money but he leaves us in a good place and tries to better his career. We'll get good money for the players we sell, bring in replacements as good or better, and also make a ton of cash this season to secure our long term future (via contracts, Academy, etc).

For us fans it's a passion, but for the players you've got to remember it's a job and you'd not turn down a 100% pay rise with a bigger company if you got the opportunity - and if you did then you'd be in a very small minority! Let the players do what they think is best ans remember the club will get better no matter who leaves because we have a good board and backroom staff.

Excellent post. It's good to see that at least a few people on this forum are able to see things from more than one point of view.

    What's FMV?

Chris you may be right, but I think Brendan has the right idea here if he wants to speak to other clubs then go, you got to ask how they knew about the clause of a million to speak to other clubs, it's either his low life blood sucking agent or him, in either case what has been done is against the rules, and should be looked at!

I for one will be happy if we get a couple of million for him, if not put him out on loan as I said previously

Which rules have been broken? From what I understand (although I could be wrong), he can speak to Newcastle because they have offered £1m. I don't think there is a rule saying contracts have to be secret. Even if there is, then maybe Newcastle offered £1m, and at that point Taylor invoked the clause and said he wanted to speak to them.

If an agent phoned you and said that another company were interested in employing you for double your current salary and would you mind talking to them for 5 mins just to hear what they have to say, would you refuse? What's wrong with talking to someone just to hear what they have to say.

Don't forget that this works both ways. Sometimes players come with the intention of staying and the club transfer them against their wishes. If you expect players to stay until the end of their contracts then there should also be a rule saying that the clubs can't kick them out either. In other words, transfers are banned and players can only move on a free at the end of their contract. Is that what you are asking for? Just don't quite understand what you want. Maybe banning transfers would be a good thing, as then those 'nasty' agents wouldn't have much work.

I know you dislike agents, and I respect your point of view, but I'm not sure whether you want them regulated or whether you want transfers banned. In this example, it might be down to the player, and you seem against that as well. So that implies that you don't agree with transfers. And if you don't do you think Swans should keep all their players until the end of their contracts?

It's in the rules that an agent cannot encourage a player to break a contract unless it's in the wording, which to an extent it is as there is million clause in his contract, but let's face it how do Newcastle even know it's there ? I mean how come they have offered exactly that to speak to him ? Something stinks here, and I am sure its the agent doing this!

And yes I do dislike agents as they serve little purpose , and any decent solicitor would be able to do exactly the same for a fraction of the price, but at least the player is getting real legal advice from a regulated person, and they have a legal right to make a complaint to the SRA if things go wrong, any player with half a brain doesn't need an agent.

Did have a direct link but on my iPhone right now, but the agent regulations are below

Yeah I think it's a tough situation but one Taylor needs to examine all his options on. With our cash and Premiership football on offer though, I really won't be worrying if he left us.

People move on allt he time, but now is the perfect time for us to build the club up to a new level imo. Young, hungry and ready to bounce back up if and when we get relegated!

It's FM-View, a Football Manager website that I run and do podcasts for. If anyone plays the game it'd be nice to see them visit the forums =D

I'd have to go along with Jager here, it's clear, and common knowledge that an agent is in breach of rules should he attempt to induce a player to break a contract, and while, there seems to be a clause in Taylors contract, to allow him to talk to another club if an offer of 1 Million where received, how would Newcastle now of this contract clause? They certainly would not get that information from our club, but they would get it from Taylor, or his agent, because they are the party that wanted that clause for the purpose now evident. I don't like agents in general, as they are bleeding the game, but I do recognise there are a few of integrity, and principle, I emphasise a few.............

I see what you're saying but I think you are jumping to conclusions without knowing the full facts. It seems like you think most agents are scum, something not quite right has happened here and therefore concluded that the agent has broken the rules.

Here's one possible scenario. Newcastle call agent and ask if he thinks Taylor is available. Agents says he doesn't know but will speak to Taylor. Agent speaks to Taylor to say that Newcastle have asked about his availability. Taylor tells agent to mention £1m clause to Newcastle. Agent does that. Newcastle make £1m offer. In this case I don't think you could say that the agent induced the player to break his contract. At this stage it is just talks. Even if Newcastle sign him the agent could be persuading him to stay.

Even if the agent induced him to break his contract, isn't it up to Swansea City FC to report him? But would they? Doesn't this work the other way as well? How did Swansea get Danny Graham? Was his agent involved. All clubs seem happy to poach players from other teams but get upset when the same thing happens to them.

When Swansea sign a player all I see on this forum is how great it is (assuming he's a good player). No-one mentions that it's wrong, that the agent induced the player to break his contract or that the player is disloyal. It is all ok when Swansea get a player. But it's the world's biggest crime when Swansea lose a player.

In fact there are list on here of players that fans want Swansea to sign. They don't care about loyalty or anything else. So why do they get so upset when it goes the other way.

If there's rules, the they should be the same for everyone and if they are broken then you should complain equally as loud whoever breaks them.

If Swansea don't want to report the agent, then end of story.

But the swans went directly to Watford with an offer for Graham, they stated that and there is nothing wrong with that, the same for Newcastle offering us a million. But there has been release of information in regards to the contract, that has put our club at a disadvantage which is not right, and even if the toons asked the agent in the way that you did, it's still a breach of the rules as set out.

But I can't see it happening in the way you describe, simply because of the way it has come to light in the press that there is million clause in his contract, how would they know? Unless somebody told them, it stinks and the agent is to blame, how do I know? Huw Jenkins has so much said that the agent has released this, and unless a deal is done in our heavily in our favour, I can see a complaint being made by the club, oh and the agent being banned from the liberty like Neil Sang!

Then Swansea should report him regardless of how much money they get. The only way to clean things up is to report the agents who break the rules. If the Swans just say, oh well we got £3m so we'll let him off, that's not really good enough. If the rules have been broken then he should be reported straight away. If what you say is true, then why hasn't he been reported. It just seems that something here doesn't quite add up.

If the agent is at fault, then so is player for going along with it and so are the Swans for not reporting it.

We went direct to Watford regarding DG - Nothing dodgy going on there.

I'd have to agree with Jager regarding the Taylor thing. He's a young, talented footballer and proved that last year. He has to be worth £2million of anybody's money. So, knowing that, why did Newcastle table an offer of just £1million?

Simple. Because they know about the clause in his contract. And considering they can't approch Taylor with approching the Swans first, it must have been his agent that told the toon.

These agents need to be banished from footballer, once and for all.
