"What was Defoe doing there? Open net at his mercy" Waiting for the offside flag ?? <boy who cried wolf>
Decent performance overall, I guess. Didn't take our chances well and rode our luck a little, but we were much the better team and played some decent stuff, at times. Now rest everyone for the Europa League game and put out a less patched up side against Liverpool, please.
Good result and performance there. Perhaps we are really beginning to gel. Still need to learn how to convert some of these chances, as we made some good ones in both halves.
Well a wins a win. Not the greatest of matches but considering Sunderland's last display against Chelsea, I'd have taken a 2-1 away win all day long. Better performance in the second half. Some good wing play. Hopefully onwards and upwards.
"Now rest everyone for the Europa League game" Absolutely. The group is done and dusted. No need to risk another Rose.
I think we've got more chance winning the Europa than the PL....and it would be nice to win SOMETHING!!!!!
I agree and I'd like to win the final game in the group, but we've already won it, so I don't want to risk anyone getting injured. We should be able to rest everyone and still give them a decent game with Friedel, Fryers, etc.
"I'm sure the usual suspects will be on later or during the week to point out the negatives." Quite right too. But meanwhile, we are stumbling onwards and upwards.
When you consider how negative things have been recently, I can only imagine what it's like on the various Man Utd message boards! We're five points ahead of them.
The opportunity to rest everyone for Thursday might be restricted because of injuries and also the under 21's have a game on Friday night.
Great result under the circumstances and a case of good and bad again. We're not scoring off our best passages of play but at the sametime we're still getting the goals and creating more chances which is promising. I was glad to see the use of our passing game once we took the lead, it's the exact right time use it and as the opposition initially were more open it meant we could continue to create chances and when they sat back we still frustrated them by playing keep ball, win/win. It was a shame that we didn't keep it up for the last 20 minutes though. Something about Spurs just means that we never do things easy and this has probably never become more obvious than this season, we flat our refuse to kill teams off in the league. 8/10s all round from me. Except for Hugo, he knows what he did
Any idea why Veljkovic was not put on the Europa roster (quota problems with the non "home growns" ) ?? With the CB situation right back then, it would have been a great chance to give him 1-2 games.
Never mind his accent, he fully justified his selection this evening. He seems to be the current scapegoat for a lot of people. Hopefully his performance today will show why AVB continues to pick him.
