I'm not saying it's entirely his fault, but there were definitely times where we could have added a second much earlier had Redmond's final ball been better, whether crossing or shooting. As for the game, 2 goals, a clean sheet and a 3 points is definitely a good result. We finally got some luck and we capitalised on it! Ruddy sounded back to his best, we still haven't managed an entire game of good football yet though, we seems to only be able to manage it in halves.
Only our 4th away win in 18 months under Hughton. We were very lucky, but we did deserve some fortune after dominating the Cardiff game without scoring and missing a penalty against Aston Villa. If we had scored just one goal against Cardiff and put away the penalty against Villa we would now be on 21 points and mid-table. Hughton will survive for now and if we can get some wins against Swansea (H) Sunderland (A) and Fulham (H) then he will probably be manager at the start of the 2014.
As a Hughton out-er I don't want to hide away after this win. A little fortunate, but away victories often are. Let's hope we can beat Swansea and go on a bit of a run and get to relative safety.
I absolutely love Fer and Hooper, i fully expected a loss and was very pleased we pulled off this smash n grab today..
Yep, massive games coming up, if we can go unbeaten for the next 3 games then things are going to be looking pretty healthy going into the New Year and the transfer window. A bit more confidence, players coming back from injury and the opportunity to strengthen is just what we need.
Actually it was Anfield and St James' Park. I only pull you up on this because I said the exact same thing earlier, before realising my mistake.
Pretty glad Lukaku ended up at Everton rather than WBA today, several times they just needed someone with a bit of quality to finish, and they kept falling to Sessegnon. Long had a poor game too.
Good performance, lucky result. The luck was earned however because we kept an attacking threat which went deep into their penalty area.
Really happy we won, but WBA's finishing was awful and we should have got beat. Hughton is a lucky ****er, whenever he needs a result to save his skin he pulls a rabbit out of the hat. His luck will run out eventually lucky bugger. P.S. I've heard a strong rumour Wolfie won't play for us again. No substance to this yet but will post again once I've spoken to my source.
I thought Murphy was exactly the right player to bring on for this reason, rather than Garrido as I wanted. WBA had to be aware of the pace that him and Redmond offered on the counter, and it meant they had to sit a little further off us. Murphy also helped support Olsson a bit more in the left back position.
