I have asked a few people of my age and no one is crystal clear what he was arrested for in the first place , some say murder and gang violence and some say black opposition to the then Government , please enlighten?
Arrested for subversion and anti-government activities. They dressed it up as as inciting strikes originally but later changed it to charges relating to plotting to violently overthrow the government which he always denied. Oh, and Robben Island was a hellhole. How on earth anyone could survive that for 27 years I don't know. Mistreatment by the guards was common. These same guards he forgave on his release and actually invited them to his presidential inauguration. What a man. I can't wait to see the new film starring the always fabulous Idris Elba. He's nail-on for the Oscar imo.
Trying to bomb a school full of kids (white probably ) but then I'm here to be shot down as I heard that from someone in the pub
turk if it was a school he was looking 2 bomb, then one thing you can be sure of, it wouldn't have been nowt bar a whites school........where the blacks given education in south Africa in them days???? one mans TERRORIST is another mans FREEDOM fighter.......
Great leader lately ..... Bit of a terror earlier tho http://thebackbencher.co.uk/3-things-you-didnt-want-to-know-about-nelson-mandela/
Totally agree with you Aber , but lets not paint too many pretty roses for the bloke, not all the whites in SA back then were nasty tw@ts
If Mandela carried out his early years activities in modern day Britain he would be labelled a terrorist. New laws have been introduced since that make this possible. I agreed with his an his colleagues struggle against apartheid but not always the methods they used. He was a man of his time an he was able to evolve.
