And who would those 2 players be? If you believe that they are playing now then you are sadly mistaken. However, as neither you nor I can prove the point I'll leave it there.
Maradona was Mess before Messi was Mess I and there's been plenty of Brazilian's with a similar game to Ronaldo.
Not that I agree with Messi & Ronaldo are the 2 best players ever, but for you to say he's wrong but you can't prove it kind of contradicts your point? I was too young to ever see Kenny play but the fact he's always top of the greatest ever and this is above Rush who has a ridiculous amount of goals just shows how good he was. As a footballer I can only guess that on pure skill Suarez must be close but then the game these days are massively stacked in the forwards favour compared to the 80's so who knows how good Suarez would have been if he played back then. as it's been mentioned before, Suarez would need to play for 5 or 6 more years to come close to being class as good for us, and that's before we even start talking about medals. He can be as good as he wants but if he fails to win medals then is he a truly great player? Let's remember football fundamentally is all about winning medals. Yes it helps if you have a better team like Kenny did, but surely a top player would be in a top team with more chance of winning medals?
It always makes for interesting debate the old "best players ever" debate but it's futile really eh As I said earlier comparing players from different generations is almost impossible when you think about the different attributes needed ten years ago or twenty or thirty. Fair to say Messi and Ronaldo are two of the best of this generation and Suarez could elevate himself up there in the next few years. Could Messi and Ronaldo have dealt with the constant brutal tackles Kenny or Maradona etc had to deal with? I was watching a Maradona vid before and defenders are trying to break his legs at every bloody opportunity
Don't want to derail the thread too much but for those who never really saw football like this check the absolute kicking Diego gets in this vid: There really would be ten reds a game nowadays
I did see Pele play and Puskas (just) play and Di Stefano and I rated Kenny higher than all but Pele. But I don't think my remark was out of order simply because the assertion was that the 2 best players ever were still playing today. Now I can go back to the 50s but there must have been magical players before that. Add to that the contention would mean that there was no point in continuing to play the game in the future as you cannot be any better than say Messi - which again is untrue.
Messi is the best ever. Look at all the records he's already broken & he's only 26. You can't argue with the stats.
Of course you can! The game is played very differently today. The way Messi plays would have been a liability to side playing a W formation
Why not? Andy Cole beat Denis Law's European record after about 3 seasons so was he better than Law as a player? No obviously not, they just played a shed load more games. Messi plays in an era when forwards are pampered more than A-list Hollywood celebrities. Stats mean **** all when comparing a player like Messi with Diego. Maradona had all Messi's skill but he was strong as an ox too and he produced regularly on the world stage and when it really counted (the fat cheating little **** ) Maradona would rape Messi's records given the protection he gets That is a fakht...................IMO
Think it all depends on when you grow up and what you see as you grow up... For me in my lifetime and what I have seen" Ronaldo fenomeno, zizou, Ronaldinho. Top three for me right now. Give it a few years, possibly CR and Messi in the mix. Again, this is who i grew up to emulate and respect.
