JOSE MOURINHO is backing Sunderland in their fight for survival after Chelsea were given a scare by the Premier League's bottom club. The Blues boss made a point of approaching rival manager Gus Poyet after Chelsea's 4-3 win at the Stadium of Light and asked him to pass on his message to the Black Cats. It provided a crumb of comfort for Poyet and his crestfallen players, who took a shock lead and pushed their opponents all the way. Sunderland, five points adrift of fourth-bottom West Ham, face Tottenham at home tomorrow. Unless they can return to winning ways on home soil - they had won their three previous league and cup games on Wearside under Poyet - they could be cut adrift ahead of the busy festive schedule. But the mood inside the camp is positive, according to striker Fabio Borini. âWe don't feel like the worst team in the Premier League because we are not the worstâ Fabio Borini "If we play like we did against Chelsea, we won't get relegated," said the Italian, who played for Chelsea as a teenager. "The manager told us that Mourinho was impressed and had congratulated us on our performance. We don't feel like the worst team in the Premier League because we are not the worst. "That is the mentality we have to keep because we know what we are capable of." After the Spurs game, Sunderland will have played all the top teams at home. But it's the improvement under Poyet which has given Borini confidence. The on-loan Liverpool striker added: "We are a different team from when he took over. "The manager has us playing a different way and has given us fresh impetus. "It's good to score three goals against a team who have won two European trophies in two years. "There is a lot of positivity here and we will take that into the weekend."
The team just has to do their talking on the field, not in the studio. Prove your confidence tomorrow at 5:30 on the pitch with 3 points and you'll start to reflect the confidence that we already have in you now.
I have every confidence in Gus and our team to turn things around...three points on Saturday will be a start. We are a better side now than we were at the start of the season, and we are playing better football.Form is temporary, class is permanent!
Totally agree Calm. We just need to start turning that confidence into points. Not too much to ask for is it? I'd just much prefer the squad to stop talking to the press about how good things are in the changing room. Doesn't mean jack if they don't deliver after the next 90 minutes.
Agree with you,sandy..the players should do their talking on the pitch, but IMHO,they are starting to!Roll on Saturday!!!!
I firmly believe we will spank someone soon, we were extremely unlucky to have men sent off in other winable games. Spurs might just be playing us at the wrong time, especially as AVB is under a bit of pressure.
