Oh brb don't tell me you have fallen for the Hessy hype?? Of course neither of us will ever know if Hess would ever would have got us promoted but given that he took a team that was anticipated to bounce straight back up and failed to even reach the playoffs has to be damning, if not a fatal blow to the concept that he could have. As for the much younger squad he would have done it with a team including Davies, Essam and Evans at the back. Whilst they were promising youngsters they were too lightweight and green. To back this up only none of the three are playing consistently at a high level, Davies can't get a game with us, even under PT, Essam is on loan at Dartford after only playing a dozen games for Crawley, and I have no idea where Evans is. Just to add a little more weight to the argument none of the Hessy stalwarts that fans said we are/were missing at under Allen, e.g. Jackman have gone on to play at a similar level, let alone a higher level. The exception being Payne of course but he was supposed to leave in the summer so a move in January was always on the cards. Yes I feel the margin was impressive, we were the first club in the country to win promotion and won the championship with a game to spare, I could google the points lead over the first playoff of place but I think I have made the point. As for the statement of the league was a poor quality, maybe true but it was no worse in quality than the previous two season, which we didn't gain promotion. I am not saying Allen is flawless, under-estimating L1 was a big one, but he deserves credit and labelling his squad as poor is unfair on him and the players
"A team that was anticipated to bounce straight back" A team that couldn't buy a win away from home, a team that only scored 13 goals away from home, a team that only won 12 games out of 46, oh! yes we were always going to bounce straight back up, (in your dreams)
BSG - I think you know me better than that to fall for any hype my friend. Just to even suggest that would make your argument fall a part. Hessy was a weak manager in my opinion but had an eye for young talent (no insult intended). Where would Gazza be today, lucky maybe, but at least Hessy went in search further a field than Brentford. The World is full of up and coming youngsters if you bother to look beyond the premier league, so our young lads were always going to struggle to find another team, yet, that don't mean they were no good, we just failed them as a group in return for instant glory. I'll give you a Cloughie quote (tongue in cheek) for why the youngsters never made it in Allen's team...After Martin OâNeil asked why heâd been dropped to the reserves: âBecause youâre too good for the first team.â and there i rest my case.
brb - of course mate, I know you aren't one for hype, but I couldn't resist a little leg pulling. You are right, we did look for instant glory under Allen, which Allen can't be blamed for, that lays at the feet of Scally. (But Allen did achieve that) In my opinion what Hess' team lack was experience in the spine of the team, which came from over using youth. If we are quoting footballing greats, may I bring up Alan Hanson's "you'll never win anything with kids"
lol...I had realised you were pulling at my strings. As for Mr Hanson I'm fully aware of his quote as well but have to choose my words carefully as her indoors is a Liverpool supporter haha Although hasten to add another quote by Brian Clough, didn't he once say something about if a manager goes the Chairman should go as well (only joking Mr Scally if your looking in).
If I was the 'unfaithful' sort - she could give a cut and blow j dry any time BSG don't you dare edit this post - I have taken out a patent on it.
With both of us being knocked out of the FA Cup first round. This is a big game for both of us,and it will be difficult.County are bottom of the League on 11 points, and a defeat for them would start to make it look likely that they will be relegated with a game played more.A win for us could be big as we would move on to 24 points with a game played more, but we would have that extra three point advantage atleast until the other games of these fixtures take place on Tuesday 28th January.A defeat and a game played more with more difficult fixtures coming up over Christmas would be a worry for us.If we defend like we did at Rotherham we will be going home pointless.I can see a score draw though. Team? Loanee`s Mousinho, and Hewitt have gone back to their clubs with injury`s unfortunately,Hopefully ***an will be ok for the bench atleast after missing Rotherham.Cody grabbed a goal at Rotherham, and I would like to see him Partnered upfront with Kedwell. It could be a risk but I would start Lee in defensive Midfield as even though he risks a sending off,he wont let people get by him easily. Nelson Harriman,Daniels,Barrett,Martin Lee Whelpdale,Hollands,Weston Kedwell,McDonald Subs:Howard,Legge,Davies,Dack,Allen,***a n,Akinfenwa
Hessenthaler wouldn't have got the job done. He had two attempts with a squad that was arguably good enough to go up but was too scared to drop the more senior players in case he might hurt their feelings. He has undoubtedly a great spot of talent but tactically not good enough for a manager. I've said that before and I still stand by that. Mad dog was a firefighter and got the job donr. He may have de-constructed the youth policy which may have been highly frustrating but he won us our first championship in 49 years. I think he could still be doing it now but that weren't to happen. Taylor isn't the man for us for the future either. You should never go back in football and today shows that. At least MA applauded the fans and thanked them for travelling miles and miles to see us lose, Taylor just alienates us and questions our motives. I don't someone like that he produces dross to watch as our manager for the future.
After watching that woeful performance today I think it is certain that we will be returning to League 2. We may have been relegated with Allen but at least we would have gone down with a fight rather than the whimper we currently have with Taylor.
I was in London yesterday,so only saw the result. We could not afford to get beaten with this being a game against a relegation rival, and us playing a game more than the other Teams. Also with the fixtures coming up over the next few weeks.I have seen the defending and again it looks poor.Peterborough up next, and you can only see a comfortable Posh win.
