If anything, this little injury crisis has shown us we are in a dire need for more strikers.

Yes no disrespect to Gallagher but a bad injury to any of our front 3 and we're in even bigger trouble!

Agreed. Two attacking mids/wingers of some variety if Gaston is leaving (if one can play a little up top, that also works, but I'm comfortable with some combination of Lambert/Osvaldo/Rodriguez) and a centerback with experience covering at one of the fullback spots (or vice versa). Not terribly convinced that we need a keeper simply because, by the time the January window rolls around, Boruc will be a couple games from returning.

I'm still of the opinion that, regardless of the money issue, we'll not dip into the market in January. It'll make a statement of intent to everyone in the academy that (a) they need to step up and (b) that if they do, there's a place in the first team for them. NC's in this for the long-term and I suspect January will frustrate a few fans.

To be clear; no basis for this, just my own reasoning on the back of occasional comments.

The sort of players that Poch wants do not grow on trees either so we will have to hope they become available in Jan, like Lovren/Osvaldo were. Cortese won't run round Italy with 10 million quid if the opportunities are not there, so new GK, attacking mid, striker, all depends on that.

If we sign one it's surely got to be in a behind the striker position. Someone like Ramirez who can produce, basically.

Looking at the graduates in the first-team squad as it stands should be reason enough to believe that there's a path there.

But right now, we have one of the smallest squads in the Prem. We're already putting kids on the bench with little intent to play them simply to make up the numbers, and that was before this injury crisis escalated. We need more depth, both now and in the future...having some strength in reserve does not mean blocking the kids, but it makes a hell of a lot of difference when we lose players throughout the year.

I appreciate totally what you are saying; I'll just be surprised to see us dip into the market in January. January is for panics and I suspect we'll be through the worst by then. I don't get the impression that our Nicola panics.

I don't think that he panics, either. But I don't think that any signing necessarily equates to panicking...most felt that we were a couple players short back in August, and that we'd need to remedy that come January. Beyond injuries, we need to keep people fresh; it's a big ask to expect the starters to be able to play out max-effort style each and every week (or, at this time of the year, twice a week) without wearing down somewhat.

Supposedly we were in for a winger on deadline day but it fell through due to injury so I don't think January business would necessarily be down to panic. It could see us finishing deals or strengthening areas where we couldn't get things done in the summer.

Yep, was ment to be coming in on loan but injured himself. That's the reason there was a Sky reporter at Saint Mary's.

Southampton are considering a move for Rubin Kazan midfielder Yann M'Vila as key player Victor Wanyama seems set for a length spell on the sidelines.
The Kenyan was a high-profile signing by the Saints during the summer, moving to the St Mary's Stadium despite interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, and has impressed with his performances so far this season.
However, he suffered a hairline fracture in his leg in Southampton's defeat to Aston Villa in midweek, and manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he may look to the transfer market for replacements.
SportsDirect News understands that M'Vila could be high on Pochettino's list of targets, with the French international having the experience and pedigree to come in and fill Wanyama's boots.
The 23-year-old has previously attracted interest from clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, and though he has not quite lived up to his potential, he has shown some improvement since leaving former club Rennes for Rubin Kazan, and looks a player who could prove a good addition for Southampton at this stage.

They sent a reporter to every team in the premier league. It wasn't just for that reason.

"Missing our best holding midfielder for six weeks? Better sign Yann M'Vila."

    Can't really see it.

M'Vila is a great player on his day, but he doesn't seem to be the most professional to put it lightly. Not sure we need a player like him.

I can see us bringing in a versatile full back. We desperately need a winger.

We don't need a dm, we have Morgan, Wanyama,Cork,Davis and now Reed. We don't need a full back either Shaw,Fox(Targett next year) Clyne and Chambers. All we really need is GK,CB and a AM/Winger.
