If its worth 10million a season you're assuming that in league 1 we'd take about a million as opposed to 11, I think you're a bit over egging it!!
I struggle to see how we would be able to leave the academy untouched if we spend more than one or two seasons below this division. Once the academy is only average or quite good, then football wise there will be little to set this club aside from a few dozen others in the lower leagues. We will always be a family club, and even if the gates drop to 8,000 that's still 10% of the entire town's population, but if we go down without bouncing straight back it's hard to see how we'll get back.
In which case the £10m per season (guess) goes up , no academy less resources ie players! less windfall money a la Young! Difficult to quantify a hypothetical situationand guess the financial impact ! I would suggest it would be more long term cost effective not to get relegated!
My prediction, or gut feeling, is that we will sign a goalscorer, a mid-fielder and a left back. We will get a couple more in on loan. The younger players will come back refreshed from their time on the beach or whatever flesh pots they have been to. We will go on a good run during the first couple of months and accumulate some points. We will have a poor run up to January when we get a couple more loan signings in and we finish in mid-table. Mr.B surprises some of us by being moderately competent and due to better weather conditions the pitch holds up until the end of January. Saracens planning is still on hold and they ask to stay to the end of the season. MM is hailed as a manager destined for a fast track to the prem. but is still with us at the end of the season. GT is knighted in the New Year Honours list. There you are. Told you I had had a hard day.

The People Sport thinks it is down to a two horse race between Malky and Lee Clark. The article also suggests that he is 'prepared to leave Watford', so you really have to take these pieces with a pinch of salt. In fact it's an assumption-filled five paragraphs. I guess two points to maybe take a bit of comfort from are firstly it says Malky wants assurances over funding, is he really going to get a significantly better financial picture there? Apparently the Chopra money is all going straight to Sunderland as debt payment. Secondly, the fact that Lee Clark is the other name. I would have thought having missed out on promotion he would be more willing to take the move as it clearly is a step-up from Huddersfield. He might be a cheaper option. The article is, as you say, lacking in substance though.
Malky is away on holiday but I guess deals could be tied up via phones etc! However unless Malky demands to leave/speak to Cardiff I presume Bassini will keep to his word... Have to say he didn't exactly rule out going to Burnley did he in January..just we refused to let MM speak to them.
Chopra gone, Bothroyd going, Bellamy not coming back... If I was Malky I'd stay until a more interesting offer turns up, makes Graham and Buckley leaving look quite inconsequential
I agree 100%. Whilst Baz will sell anything for a quick buck he doesn't actually know that in football you need to build something to replace the wall you've just bulldozed. If Malky goes this summer there will be a huge hole left - no Chief Exec, a rookie manager (I would expect), some key player departures and some bloke called Baz trying to keep his finger in the holes in the plan. I can agree with the comment "Malky seems prepared to leave" - a manager can only take so many disasters before a tempting offer (+ pay rise) from elsewhere tips the balance. I mean what do we fans really expect? He has achieved minor miracles over the last couple of years, but each year the mountain seems to get steeper. If it was a comedy you wouldn't believe it, but this pantomime is being played out in front of our very eyes. I think I am now resigned to Malky leaving this summer, whether its Cardiff this week or somewhere else in the next few weeks, the effect is the same. 52 points seems a long way away.
