I was going to answer Joe's worst song thread with "any cover song that's just a similar but worse version of the original", but then I thought "that's ALL of them"!

But it isn't, is it? They can't all be as bad as Boyzone's murdering of "Father and Son", or Matt Cardle who couldn't even get the name of "Many of Horror" right.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for covers that are either better than the original, or are as good in an alternative way?

I'll start with Dionne Warwick's original Walk On By, and the cover by the Stranglers.

Know ill get pelters from the older generation but John Mayer's live version of Free f far allin' is better than the original Tom Petty.

While im on Jimi Hendrix bold as love. Mayers version on continuum album is superior. Much faster tempo which makes the guitar solo more intense.

Not that i love either but Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse cover of Valerie gets more love that the original.

A Little Help From My Friends Joe Cocker. Come to think of it The Letter, Summer In The City, quite a lot of Cocker stuff beats the originals imo.

Controversial one, but I much prefer the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb to Pink Floyds.

Agree totally grandpops - I cover the Joe Cocker version myself - great song to sing!!

Knockin' on heavens door by Guns n' Roses IMO better than the Dylan version

Get off the forum you uneducated fool!!! I think this deserves a ban - anyone with me ;)
