The point is the council has put this out there in the media and i know for a fact that they are in a financial mess that will get worse due to the cutbacks as my Bro has worked for them for the last 40 years and they are laying people off like its nobodies Business. You can bet your life that the figure they have said they have to find will be a lot higher as they never say the true amount in things like this..thats politics ain't it. Now the way i see it is that they would not specifically just happen to mention the two most valuable assets they have to sell if it was not to put them out to tender and gauge the response. I have no doubt in my mind that the club has been informed anyway and my question was What would you do if you had a vote...would it be yes it would be the way forward and a good investment to have full control or no because it will be a big outlay at this time and we cant afford to spend that amount in our infancy in the premiership....Myself i think you don't get anywhere without risks and if it is put to the board i would want them to snap their hands off for the opportunity..
Well if we're voting then I'd want the club to buy if possible. It's got to be the best thing long term, especially, as has been mentioned if a foreign buyer comes in and puts the squeeze on somewhere down the line.
That is my main fear tbh. I don't trust any foreign businessman to do the best for the club and will be only there to make money for himself..
Its not an assumption. The Council do not have to sell the land with a covenant saying it has to be used as a stadium! That would lower its value.
I agree that the council made it known to the media that there is a huge shortfall in funds although I actually suspect it is less that the amount stated. It is in the interest of the local authority to state higher loss figures so they can apply (or beg) for more funding from the national government. As far as them mentioning their two largest assets; I can only reiterate that the only place the Civic Centre and the Liberty Stadium have been reported in connection with this funding issue is in the Evening post as far as I can tell. Selling the Civic centre is a laughable proposal for starters. What will happen is that a lot of the satellite offices will be seriously downsized and centralised to the civic centre. This will make huge savings from wages and running cost and they could also sell off the buildings those offices were in. As far as the Liberty is concerned I think the council would gladly sell it to the Swans anyway mainly because of the saving in maintenance cost involved with running the place.
