“Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity.” ~ Nelson Mandela 1996

"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die"

    Goodnight wonderful man.

A true leader and statesman, and a man that broke the yoke of apartheid, his name carries the ultimate message, that good can triumph over evil. How I wish we had leaders of his quality in this country. Another shining light goes out on this miserable system we have to endure! R.I.P..............................<rose>

RIP Nelson. I'll always picture him lifting the Rugby World Cup not long after the abolishment of apartheid.

1995 world cup? our captain of our side in that tournament said today (John Eales) that South Africa were not the best team at said World Cup however they had a 16th man, I remember watching that match when he lifted the trophy in his South African jersey.

I left Scotland as a naive 12 yr old. we docked at Cape Town and did the usual tourist crap. just before we embarked I needed a piss so went to a toilet. A kind black gentlemen told me I could not go into the toilet. I asked why and he told me it was only for black men and white men had to use to one next door. I asked him why and he replied that is the way our country is. Never thought much about it until now.

    Thank you Nelson and RIP
