CHARLTON BOSS POWELL DETERMINED NOT TO LOSE SUNDERLAND TARGET POYET Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Mon, 11/18/2013 - 11:03 Share on email Share on print Charlton Athletic boss Chris Powell has played down the prospect of losing England youth international Diego Poyet. The midfielder is a target for Sunderland, where Dad Gus is now in charge. Powell played down talk of Poyet moving to the North East in October, claiming he club wanted to fast-track him into the first team – but the youngster is understood to have become frustrated at a lack of minutes, with a loan move also mooted. Powell said: “Everyone is looking at Diego and looking at Gus going to Sunderland and thinking he will take his son. “He is someone who we have an eye on to not only have a career but to be involved in this first-team squad.” Sunderland and Aston Villa target in line for Torino exit Friday, November 15, 2013 Sunderland and Aston Villa target Danilo D'Ambrosio will not sign a new contract with Torino, his agent has confirmed. The 25-year-old is out of contract next summer and has been linked with a host of top clubs, including Juventus and Napoli. But the Premier League duo are also said to be tracking D'Ambrosio's progress and could make an offer for him in January. And his agent, Vincenzo Pisacane, told TV Luna that D'Ambrosio will not sign a new deal - though he also refused to rule out of a move to Naples. "I've read in the newspapers that we are working on his renewal, indeed that we are on the right road for that," said Pisacane. "However, that is not right. "A move to Napoli? I can't exclude the possibility that Torino and Napoli have discussed a transfer because the agent is always the last to know." Brighton trio set for Stadium of Light moves? Managers are often linked with their former players, and that's certainly the case with new Sunderland boss Gus Poyet and his former Brighton stars Sunderland are deep in the relegation mire, and after the sacking of Paolo di Canio, they have turned to Gus Poyet to keep them afloat. As a result, the Uruguayan will be looking for new signings in January as he looks to mould his own team at the Stadium of Light, and the media are already beginning to link the former Chelsea and Spurs midfielder with moves for some of his former players at Brighton - here are three that could be turning out in the red and white stripes of Sunderland in the New Year. Leonardo Ulloa Despite spending £8.5m on Jozy Altidore in the summer, Sunderland are still searching for goals having scored just five this season – only Stoke have scored less in the Premier League. This hunt for a striker could lead them to Brighton's Leonardo Ulloa. The Argentine has been a sensation at The Amex, scoring 18 goals in all competitions since his January move from Spanish side Almeria. A typical targetman with height, strength and aerial ability, Ulloa has shown he can score goals in the Championship – is he ready for the step up? He has since come out to quash speculation, but by time January rolls around and interest becomes concrete he may not feel the same way. Liam Bridcutt Bridcutt, 24, was formerly on the books at Chelsea before a move to Brighton in 2010. Since then, the combative defensive midfielder has made 142 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions, clinching successive Player of the Awards in 2011-12 and 2012-13. Bridcutt may be small, but he wins the ball back well and plays simple passes to keep possession for his team. Sunderland have a similar player in Lee Cattermole, but Bridcutt is a technically better player and his disciplinary record is a lot cleaner. Will Buckley Sunderland let Stephane Sessegnon leave, but did bring in Emanuele Giaccherini and Charis Mavrias in the summer. Adam Johnson hasn't quite lived up to his billing since his move from Manchester City, which could lead Poyet to add competition on the flanks. Buckley, 23, signed for Poyet's Brighton for £1m in 2011, and has gone on to score almost 20 goals from the wing during his spell at The Amex. Pacey and with good dribbling ability, Buckley poses a threat when running at defences – but he's wildly inconsistent and frustrating at times, which makes you wonder whether he can cut it at a higher level. Given the way that Poyet left Brighton in the summer, there may be a reluctance from the Seagulls to do a deal anyway. Brighton fans are talking in excess of £10m for Bridcutt and Ulloa, after Crystal Palace had £6.25m turned down for the pair, which is a lot of money for players totally unproven in the Premier League - but having worked with them before, maybe Poyet believes he can harness their abilities in any division. Sunderland Head Coach Gus Poyet Keen On Keeping Ki Sung-Yueng Gus Poyet will explore the possibility of turning Ki Sung-Yueng's loan deal at Sunderland into a permanent transfer. The South Korea international moved to the Stadium of Light over the summer, with former Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio striking a season-long agreement with Swansea City. Swansea were quick to point out at the time that they were not turning their back on Ki and still considered him to be part of their future. The terms of his loan are not believed to include a release clause which could be triggered by Sunderland. Poyet has, however, been impressed by what he has seen from the former Celtic man and would welcome the opportunity to keep him on Wearside. Gus Poyet said in the Northern Echo: "It is still early doors and I don't know how expensive he is. But we will see. He plays the type of football that I really admire. "He has the ability to pass the ball with just one touch and change from one side to the other, or run with the ball and have a shot with either foot. "If he believes that he can do a bit of the work the other way, the defensive way, he is a player who can give us the lot." Ki, who cost Swansea £6million in the summer of 2012, has made the holding midfield role his own at Sunderland over recent weeks. Lee Cattermole has paid the price for a costly dismissal and a subsequent ban, and he may struggle to earn an instant recall after serving the final game of his suspension during a trip to Stoke City on Saturday. Gus Poyet added: "He (Ki) had to wait for his chance. In the beginning, it was Lee Cattermole in there and he wanted to play in that position. "Then there was the sending off, and he needed to come in and show the manager that he wanted the shirt. He had to make it difficult for Lee to come back. He is there at the moment, and he has the chance to stay there." ‘Play for the Mackems? It just wouldn’t be right’ – Joey Barton rules out Sunderland switch Joey Barton has dismissed speculation he may be on the verge of a shock switch to Sunderland – insisting he could never play for the Black Cats. The former Newcastle midfielder has 18 months left on his contract with QPR and was rumoured to be a January target for new Sunderland manager Gus Poyet. However, Barton has given short shrift to the idea on Twitter. ‘Me to 5under1and? Somehow I just don’t think so,’ he said. ‘I value the time I spent at NUFC. I value the relationship I have with the toon army to this day. I could never play for the Mackems. ‘It wouldn’t be right. Not sure were the rumour came from. But as usually its nonsense.’

Nah mate. Haven't heard of most of them. I've heard of the Brighton lads and Dickhead, oh, and Ki of course. Know nowt of the overseas lads and the Coventry lad.
Sunderland and Bolton linked with Coventry’s Christie SUNDERLAND have been linked with a move for Coventry defender Cyrus Christie. The Sky Blues academy product is in talks over a new contract at the Ricoh Arena. But Sunderland, along with Championship side Bolton, have both been credited with an interest in the right-back. Huddersfield saw a summer offer rejected for Christie, while Spurs were linked with the 21-year-old earlier in the season. HALMSTADS STRIKER BERISHA ADMITS PREFERRING SUNDERLAND AHEAD OF LIVERPOOL Halmstads striker Valmir Berisha admits he'd prefer a move to Sunderland over Liverpool. The U17 World Cup star feels he has a better chance of first team progress at a smaller club. "I think I'd rather not go to a big club like Liverpool. I am thinking rather of Sunderland. That could be a club that suits me. And if I'm honest, I've already spoken with them. They have said to me that my age does not matter. "If I'm good enough, I'll play," said Berisha. Nabil Bahoui focused on AIK FotbollTweet By Subhankar Mondal, Reporter Filed: Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 20:12 UK Last Updated: Thursday, November 28, 2013 at 23:17 UK AIK Fotboll winger Nabil Bahoui has insisted that he is focused on playing well for his club in the upcoming season. The 22-year-old Swede has recently been linked with a move to Sunderland, with Crystal Palace, Everton and Cardiff City also said to be interested. "You hear a lot, but you have to talk to my agent about clubs and such," he told Fotbolldirekt.se. "I am just focusing on the coming season with AIK." Bahoui has been at AIK since 2012.
Whilst we might want him to sign, I'm not sure Ki would want to sign until our future in the PL is guaranteed another season. I think Bridcutt could do a job for us. Get him for less than we'll get for Catts possibly? I'd also like to think that Gus finds out in the next 3 weeks that he doesn't need a striker now, that Jozy and Borini start a run.
Liam Bridcutt says it will be hard to resist an opportunity to play in the Premier League. Albion fans fear the midfielder general will be targeted by former boss Gus Poyet at Sunderland when the January transfer window opens. Promoted arch rivals Crystal Palace had a £1.75 bid rejected for Bridcutt at the end of the August transfer window. The ex-Chelsea prospect, back in the Albion team after injury and under contract until 2015 said: "I'm a Brighton player. As long as I am contracted to Brighton I am going to give 110 per cent to Brighton. "If you are doing well you are always going to get interest from other clubs and as a player that's what you want. You want to be performing and for other clubs to notice that. "For me it's just a case of getting back in the team and performing and trying to do the best I can for Brighton. I have always said that I want to be a Premier League player and the only way I am going to do that is by performing. "It's going to be even better if I can do it with Brighton but if there is an opportunity for me to do it with another club it's going to be hard for me to turn it down. But as long as I'm performing you are always going to have that interest from other clubs."
Thank **** for that. Catts reputation but all the nastiness of a genuine **** (unlike Catts. He's just misunderstood).
Genclerbirligi midfielder Radosav Petrovic is interesting several Premier League clubs. Accroding to The Daily Mail Crystal Palace are watching former Blackburn Rovers player Petrovic. Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is also showing a lot of interest in the 24-year-old while Aston Villa have asked to be kept informed.
Vilakazi linked with Sunderland Bidvest Wits midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi has attracted the interest of English Premier League side Sunderland. Vilakazi has been linked with a number of local sides, including Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, but it seems a move to Europe could be on the cards, with a club in Portugal also reportedly interested. “There has been some talk about Sunderland [who Bidvest have a partnership with] in England and another team in Portugal,” he tells KickOff.com. “The move to Portugal is most promising. The CEO of the club is handling it.” Despite huge interest from Chiefs, the Soweto-born midfielder has ruled out the possibility of relocating to Naturena. “I have heard about the interest from Kaizer Chiefs, and also the rumours about Pirates and Sundowns,” he continues. “But I don’t think I would move to any local team at the moment. “If I have to move it must be to Europe; if not I want to stay with Wits because I still want to win trophies with the club. There is still the Nedbank Cup and we are not too far away from the team at the top of the log.”
15 minutes ago "There are things going on behind the scenes in terms of the transfer window - that hasn't changed - and I'm confident they will happen." Gus Poyet
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet wants QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Beleaguered Poyet is exploring ways to bolster his side, who sit five points adrift at the foot of the Premier League table, and has identified vastly experienced Cesar as someone who could trigger a revival. The 34-year-old has been told he can leave Loftus Road and wants a move to ensure his place in the Brazil side for this summer’s World Cup. Although Rangers were relegated from the Premier League last season, Cesar was one of the few to emerge with credit for his performances. QPR would prefer a permanent transfer but Sunderland boss Poyet wants to push through a loan deal until the end of the season and take over Cesar’s wages. Poyet has used Vito Mannone in goal since first choice Keiren Westwood picked up a head injury against Hull City in November yet Sunderland have still only taken one point out of the last 12. Sunderland brought in 14 players during the summer and, while Poyet is also desperate to bring in a striker, he is unsure how many new signings he will be allowed to bring in. Poyet said: ‘I’m working on changing things in January, that’s for sure. But that doesn’t affect my thinking about now. ‘There are things going on behind the scenes in terms of the transfer window - that hasn’t changed - and I’m confident they will happen. How big the changes will be, I don’t know just yet. But we need results now, in our next few games, and it is about personality and attitude. There is a gap between us and the other teams, so we need to be spot on.
Adding further weight to his burgeoning reputation as one of the most promising young talents in the country, India under-19 midfielder Brandon Fernandes has been invited by Premier League club Sunderland for a trial for the second time in a span of three months. The 19-year-old was first invited by Sunderland in October this year after the club's scouts monitored his performances in the Second Division of South African league, playing for ASD Cape Town. However, since Sunderland were undergoing a managerial change that week, they were asked to return later in the year. "ASD Cape Town can confirm that Brandon Fernandes spent two weeks with Sunderland earlier this year where he received an excellent technical report. He was scouted by Sunderland in Cape Town whilst playing for ASD's SAFA 2 side," the club said in a statement. "His time at Sunderland was the week in which Sunderland changed their management and Paulo Di Canio was sacked. As a result, both players were requested to return to Sunderland later in the year." Fernandes, a product of I-League club Salgaocar's youth side, burst onto the scene with his performances for the India U-19 team during the AFC U-19 qualifiers in Tehran. He impressed again when, playing for Salgaocar's youth team, he put up noteworthy performances at a tournament organised by Manchester United in Manchester. Based on his performances in that tournament, ASD Cape Town came calling and he became the first Asian player to be signed by the South African team. Since then, he has been the most talked about Indian youth footballer. The midfielder, with a reputation of being a dead-ball specialist, scored 12 goals in as many matches for his club in the second division and four of those goals came from free-kicks. His performances in South Africa haven't gone unnoticed. He has invited by English clubs like Reading and Leicester City earlier this year. And though the Goan teenager failed to land contracts with either of the sides, ASD are optimistic about his future. "We will be making an announcement on (the player's future) imminently," the club said.
Hartlepool Unitedâs in-demand centre-back Jack Baldwin is being watched by Sunderland who are looking for fresh defensive talent Sunderland are running the rule over Hartlepool Unitedâs in-demand centre-back Jack Baldwin. The Black Cats watched the 20-year-old defender impress in the weekend FA Cup clash with Coventry City, along with Premier League rivals Stoke and Championship pair Blackburn and Huddersfield. And with Sunderland on the look out for fresh defensive talent a January move for the highly-rated centre-back is a understood to be a possibility. Gus Poyet is unsure the exact size of his January war chest but Sunderland owner Ellis Short knows that whatever the denouement of this dismal season, a major re-structuring job is required at the end of the campaign. It is understood that Sunderland are casting the net for young, British talent and that order took talent spotters to Victoria Park to see one of the lower leagueâs leading prospects. Hartlepool are hoping to raise more than £500,000 if they are forced to let Baldwin go, but Sunderland may be prepared to let the defender rejoin the League Two club on loan as part of any deal. Sunderlandâs interest comes after they missed out on Dundee Unitedâs teenage defender John Souttar after failing to agree a fee with the Tannadice club for the Scotland Under-19 international. The Black Cats had invited the 19-year-old to the Stadium of Light for a tour of the facilities but failed to land the player, who is now interesting upwardly mobile Everton. Although plans are being made for the New Year, the early suggestions have been that Sunderlandâs January spending will depend on whether they gain ground on their fellow Premier League strugglers. But Poyet has identified a number of potential targets, with Brighton midfielder Liam Bridcutt mentioned in meetings. It is the interest in Baldwin which is slightly closer to home for Sunderland supporters. Hartlepool are braced for interest in the centre-back and boss Colin Cooper told The Journal last month that several of his players â including Baldwin â would be able to play at Championship level at least. âI havenât got a problem saying it: we have got players who could comfortably play at Championship level without it being a massive stretch,â he said. âNow whether that is with Hartlepool or not I donât know, but weâve got players who can play at a higher level and thatâs a fact.â Sunderland have some major decisions to make in the coming months with an astonishing nine players set to see their contracts expire at the end of the campaign.
Hull City manager Steve Bruce could look to re-sign one of his former players in Sebastian Larsson this January, it has emerged. The Swedish international has previously played for Bruce at both Birmingham City and Sunderland, and could be available this January as he has not always been a regular for the Black Cats this season. Hull are hoping to secure Premier League survival this season after winning promotion from the Championship last term, and hope to add some depth to their squad when the transfer window re-opens. SportsDirect News now understands that Larsson is among Bruce's top targets, as he remains a fan of the 28-year-old's passing ability and technique. Larsson, who started his career at Arsenal, is known for excellent delivery from set pieces and long range shots when at his best, and his top-level experience could also prove crucial for the Tigers this season. However, it remains to be seen if Sunderland will be willing to sell a potentially key player to a relegation rival. Note. Sports Direct News wrote this hence why I posted it on here rather than start a thread.
Ermm this one. SUNDERLAND have been scouting Hartlepool United defender Jack Baldwin. The 20-year-old, along with fellow promising Pools youngster Luke James, have been watched by a host of clubs after impressing for the League Two outfit this season. And a Sunderland scout, along with representatives from Stoke, Blackburn and Huddersfield, were in attendance for Pools’ FA Cup clash with Coventry City last weekend. Essex-born central defender Baldwin, 20, has helped Pools to record eight clean sheets so far this season, while 19-year-old striker James, from Amble in Northumberland, has already bagged 10 goals. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...d-track-hartlepool-united-s-baldwin-1-6310797
