Mandela - general discussion thread.

I lived in South Africa for a couple of years under the system he wanted to change. A basic travesty of human rights which later was supported by a female British PM who was on the wrong side of history regarding Nelson Mandela. I was one of his biggest supporters and am sure he wouldn't mind the jokes!

 

It was Thatcher who called him a terrorist, but nevertheless he will be revered around the world as a great statesman. We could do with a few more of his ilk.

You've just made a broadbrush, gratuitous post and then immediately apologized for it, all in one figurative breath. Are you sure about that? What makes you think you are more genuine in your sentiment than others? From where do you get your understanding of what he did and experienced, rather that what he achieved, although that was huge in many ways.

Personally I think that making jokes about someone within minutes/hours of their death is nothing more than a measure of them that do it or condone it; it takes all sorts.

 

I have been back and looked. Do you really think you do his memory justice by running around using his memory to try and generate hate?

There's more to the boards than what's on show and there's more to it than one persons view, and it certainly doesn't run to my agenda, which is about as polar opposite to the one you seem to be implying as it's possible to be. I have a number of very close family members and friends that are in various branches of the military, so it's not really likely I'd be disrespectful to the memory of Lee Rigby.

The other issue with threads is the point in time that threads are made can determine what occurs. In another time, its quite possible things would be done differently, but at the end of the day, this is a Hull City football forum, on occasions there are other current affairs discussed. Each of those is dealt with in ways that are felt appropriate at the time. The measure is the general good of the board, not your or my personal agendas.


It's only a couple of days ago, I was accused of having a right wing agenda, and here the suggestion seems to be I'm left wing. I think that means on average I'm a liberal.

If I was searching for infamy, I'm sure I could do better than questioning the ludicrously overblown hagiography we're being subjected to right now and doing it on some HCFC forum.

You're not doing yourself any favours by lashing out angrily at posts with which you disagree.

Someone's death is not an occasion to start hurling abuse at those posting differing positions, so you'll forgive me for not stooping to the levels of some on here (or any Baroness Thatcher thread).

It's far from personal with me. You seem to be the one rummaging around the internet and trying to imply my personal details are some sort of threat. It was felt appropriate at the time, for a football forum. Another time, another action may be more appropriate.

 

Must be my eyes these days, I'd barely noticed it. Sometimes I can't see all the thread as the chrome on my zimmer reflects on the screen.

That's a decent effort at misrepresentation, but it ultimately fails, as do all lies. I called you a racist and told you to **** off, the first is totally accurate the second is sincere and to the point. No anger or lashing, just the way it is. So why do you come on here and post your ****e?

 

I know it was probably a genuine mistake, but the "and" spelt twice made me read that as a mixture of that dippy girl off American pie and you bordering on tears.

To be fair Fez, and you won't find many quicker to call old Agro a **** than myself, but he's behaving himself in a far, far more civilised manner than his opposite number did when our Thatch clogged it. Not a lot to shout about what he's saying on here to be honest.
