Well that's true, but who will be in the market for a Football stadium in Swansea? and there is the 'forced sale value too' there is always that market!......
No bigger than your assumption that it wouldn't be sold with a covenant restricting further use. Once you consider the fact that two sports clubs have long term leases on the place, and the sporting grants that contributed to its construction then it becomes significantly less so.
Well If we want to be our own masters then here is an opportunity to do so and if we don't then we can't complain at whoever buys the stadium and makes changes that we don't like...Bums on seats won't make a difference to them from us as we will pay a fixed rent whether we have 1,000 or 25,000 to watch us play..
Cracking thread this Dai, nice one. I agree with Norway that if we can keep the status quo going we should do so for as long as possible. If the council need to sell and have set the ball in motion...I like Project's idea of purchasing a controlling stake (with the specifics re: the future division of profit after expansion for example) nailed down in our favour.
StadCo have probably already notified the Swans via the two council board members, I wish we had insight into their board meetings at the Stadium. I think Dai is right though, it is in the clubs interest to own it and this is the best time to thrash out a deal with the council.
We wont have a chance of it being any cheaper thats for sure and if we control the stadium and all who use it then we wont have anyone to oppose anything we do inside the stadium. As long as planning an extension is approved then we can do what we want in the time of our choosing. I can see a lot of benefits in trying to buy the stadium...It will never lose its value even if we were to be in the conference god forbid. It will be an asset we can use...
And sell to expand elsewhere if required in the future. Sometimes it is cheaper to build new to reach a bigger capacity, at least in terms of office space... I am assuming it may apply to stadiums as well.
Someone make a poll on this to gauge the opinions of the fans...I don't know how to do these poll things..<
How long does the deal for the naming rights to the stadium last? Also who would have pocketed the money from the deal?
Well i wouldn't call it "the swansea city stadium thats for sure" ...I would want to make a **** load of money on it for a fixed period of time..
With the right financial deal for the stadium rights, we could buy the stadium for peanuts by recouping the money immediately through a new naming deal, and if we were to combine stadium name deal with the same shirt sponsors surly there is a lot of cash to be brought in there?
Yes you have a point valley. These opportunities vary rarely come along anywhere let alone here. I think we should grab it with both hands myself..
The council has denied it's selling the Liberty. It's just bit of embellishment by the Evening Post to sexy up a genuine story of cuts that could be possible, due to our local athority having to save £45m over the coming 3 years. I still believe it could be a good time to make the council and offer to buy out the stadium. SCC desperately need the funds (according to the story on the front page of the local rag) and the club has a fair bit swishing around. And, as pointed out by Valley, there could be a way to work it so that it would appear to cost next to nothing.
Nothing to do with the EP pagan. I saw what the council said on the tv and they said they owned a number of buildings in swansea and are looking to sell some off including the liberty and the county hall..
The only place I've seen this cost cutting issue going as far as the selling of the Liberty or the Civic Centre is in the Evening Post. Didn't see any mention of this story at all on the TV but then again I don't watch a lot of TV anyway. I would suggest that the evening post got itself in an excited flap because some councillor mentioned selling off some local authority property to save a bit of cash, and instead of getting the facts right just printed that the council are going to sell the two largest buildings it owns... They do have a track record for bending the truth. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-25240600
This is also true. Watch Dai try to spin it so it looks like he's in the know. PS -Censorship is disgusting.
