Evening Hoppers. It's four matches on from our little wager. Incredibly Town won three out of the four matches. A fourth win would have put Town just ahead of Leeds (either by virtue of goals scored or goal difference), but as I asserted four wins on the bounce would not be enough to put us in the play off zone. 3 Burnley 18 10 6 2 29 13 16 36 4 Derby 18 9 4 5 35 25 10 31 5 Reading 18 8 7 3 27 20 7 31 6 Blackpool 18 8 7 3 22 16 6 31 7 Ipswich 18 8 5 5 ? ? 7+ 29 8 Leeds 18 9 2 7 26 20 6 29 As it happens, we have closed the gap by just one point by way of underlining the mammoth task for us to make the play offs from our standing start even in this kind of form.
Cheers Hampy, dug this out from the thread in question & have put in the last 4 points total. Just for you Hampy, going by your suggestion that we win our next four & going by the 8 teams above us do exactly the same as their last four games, by my calculations that would put us 5thâ¦.! Team - Last four games points total - points total after same results from next four games; Brighton - 5pts - new total 23pts â actual = 25pts Derby - 7pts - new total 23pts â actual = 31pts Wigan - 5pts - new total 24pts â actual = 22pts Blackburn - 4pts - new total 24pts â actual = 23pts Leeds - 6pts - new total 26pts â actual = 29pts Watford - 4pts - new total 26pts â actual = 24pts Forest - 4 pts - new total 27 pts â actual = 28pts Reading - 4pts - new total 27pts â actual = 31pts Town would be on 29pts â actual = 26pts And as I suggested not one of these teams has produced more than 2 wins in their last four..! Only two teams in the whole division have won more than two games in the last four & that is the top two. In summary I think we would all agree that Town did much better over the last 4 games than expected and have now firmly put us in the PO picture, so long as we get another good result on Saturday. Would we all have took this position after our last 4 games, of course we would.! Out of the 9 teams I included (Not Burnley Hampy); 6 have got more points over the last 4 in comparison to the previous 4 (inc Town) 3 have got less Also Huddersfield have put a very good run together to put themselves in the mix, should be a good game Saturday.!
Thai : FYI I think that's a comment from the original thread. As I think I stated then, purely by law of averages if no-one has won three out of four you can be fairly sure someone will in the next four. That's why it's not good news for Town because we've only made up one point and it will be a tall order to carry on and end up winning 6 out of 8. Having said that, Blackpool have dropped like a stone and Town have put themselves on the front row of the grid to capitalise. Derby look unstoppable after dropping Clough. Let's hope we can defy the odds.
Is quite possible, I don't set up my tent here so don't read much It looks a close gap to the play offs now, but you are right, it is not easy making up a shortfall, often even harder to extend a cushion once that is achieved. Looks like another exciting league this season with so many inconsistent teams playing for the places.
If you ask me the acquisition of Stephen Hunt can be the difference between drawing and winning a match. Even if we scrape in there by Christmas we would be likely to drop back soon thereafter as the results balance out a little. But over the course of the season in the kind of form we're in now it's not insurmountable, just a shame we left it so long to find our feet.
It was a cut & paste job from a previous thread, not done as well as I should if I am honest. For me Stephen Hunt until the end of the season is a must, also another forward & a RB, if we do that then we have a real good chance at the POs....!
Team : Position Gained : Points Gained: Points in relation to Town Leicester : + 1 : + 6 : - 3 QPR: + 1 : + 6 : - 3 Burnley: -2 : + 3 : - 6 Derby: + 7: + 12 : + 3 Reading: + 0: + 8 : - 1 Blackpool: - 2: + 4 : - 4 Leeds: +1: + 9 : 0 Forest: -2 : + 6 : - 3 Ipswich: + 4 : + 9 : N/A Huddersfield: + 4: + 9 : 0 I think that shows that although position 6 is only 1 point closer, we have been closing in on the play-off pack in general a lot more than that solitary point tells us. Having said that I think realistically only positions 5 and 6 are up for grabs. but we are definitely in the mix for the first time in 5 years.
Plenty of season left to keep moving upwards............play offs are well within our grasps as i've always said....
We'll have a good idea of whether in with a shout by the end of the January. We have Huddersfield, Forest, QPR, Reading and Leeds to play between now and then. QPR are pretty much home and dry in terms of top six but the others are six pointers for us.
Good to see the team is managing to get people to reconsider their opinions of how this season could turn out...................... ......i think the only day we want to be in the play-offs is the day after the last day of the season...........................unless we drop down from the Auto's.....
As I've said I think we'll be floating around midtable most of the season and possible with the odd bit of luck toward the end of the season we might sneak in there, I think over the course of a season we'll be more consistent than most teams. As we've seen alot of teams seem to go on really good runs followed by really bad ones, so who knows what can happen. I don't even think come January we will have a real picture of who will finish in those positions, the makeup of this league can change so quickly!!!
