Why do you not think he is that bad? The defence is worse, the attack is worse, the football is deteriorating at an alarming rate following improvements early this season. There really is very little if anything to admire about him.
I'm off to bed. Hopefully all will be well in the morning! (We win the toss and build a good score in the first innings against the Aussies!) lol!
What I find the most annoying is it's about Suarez's greatness rather then ****e defending. It's another cheap way to evade responsibility. This time it wasn't manoeuvrability and movement which outdone our defence like the Man City game, in this game we backed off too much we allowed Liverpool too much space, we need to man mark problem players but we instead back off in an attempt to form layers, against the big clubs I'd rather see us commit players rather then let them run riot.
Then I'm entitled to disagree with Chris Hughton on this occasion. Given that you disagree with him on every occasion, I'm surprised that you suddenly value his opinion. Of course there is always something that could have been done at some point to prevent every goal, and the managers job is to identify those things. The defending for the corner was very poor but I watched the game, listened to the views of the Swedish commentators, listened to Talksport, watched MOTD. The world is talking about the brilliance of Suarez. No one is saying he was gifted goals. What did they say on MOTD? Something along the lines of we could be watching the goal of the month competition just by looking at Suarez's goals tonight.
I said he is not as bad as some people are making out. He has tried to change the way we play from how PL had us set up. And in my opinion that was required for longer term success and stability. I believe he wants us to try and play with more control in possession with more considered build up which is no bad thing although it is very much a work in progress. Under PL we pressed all the time which was and can be good but often meant we lost our shape, leaving us particularly susceptible to counter attacks. CH clearly wants to try us play with a more disciplined shape and try (clearly not always working at the min) to contain teams rather then press them. Personally I prefer a pressing game, and feel the way the game is going trying to contain the good sides is becoming outdated. They have too many good player with the ability to score from anywhere. But if done correctly it can work. As I said there are many many things I would like to see him change, but I can see the merit in what he is trying to achieve although he has not found the right balance. He is certainly a manager who looks longer term, and as such requires lots of time to build a team into how he wants them to play (sure many would argue 2 seasons is a lifetime in football) . Often of course clubs just want short term success even if it means failure over the long term. Fans want success here and now, but maybe a bit of patience would bring greater success in the long term. Don't many would agree with that though. Clearly things need to improve and CH has a responsibility to play his part as do the players and backroom staff. If they are given the chance remains to be seen.
At least the other teams down the bottom also lost, and Cardiff/Stoke drew, so it wasn't that disastrous a night in the larger scheme of things. Having said that, though, they seem to have gone down fighting, whereas it looks as if we fell on our sword again. I'm very worried about this season now. When you have teams of roughly the same level, it's the one which is weak mentally that goes down. And that is us.
That simply is not true, and nor have I been a Hughton out campaigner, so you can retract that off-the-cuff comment. I don't - I am just pointing out that perhaps Ch might be right and that the defence and midfield did give too much room for Suarez & co to do their stuff. It is not beyond possibility that even had we man-marked the 'rat' that the outcome may have been quite similar, but the lack of closing the space down, certainly contributed to making him look better than he otherwise may have
You're right. Consider it fully retracted. I really meant that there isn't generally a lot of support for CHs opinion's on here but I was absolutely wrong to direct it at you personally.
No problem fella Yes, it is more than fair to say CH has lost the majority on here now. Personally I have been on the fence, although one of the first to raise concerns as far back as February, but I am a little saddened to say that I am off the fence now. I believe City can survive the PL, perhaps just, with a decent home form but I am bordering on depression watching the away games now.
Yes, I think it's only a matter of time before the home form starts crumbling, too. A team can't keep getting battered week after week without it seriously affecting confidence. We definitely need a new input, and quickly. Otherwise the rot is simply too deep now.
I know it was against your team and that makes it very difficult but, did you enjoy the quality goals that Suarez scored? Sorry if that sounds patronising, no offence intended. I just wondered as although I hate seeing my team concede (as I did tonight despite being 4-1 up still) but I also appreciate a quality goal when I see one.
Tricky one to answer subjectively We don't like Suarez much, mostly for his repetitious hat-tricks against us, and somehow last night had a certain inevitability about it. Personally, as of this minute, my answer would be no, I did not enjoy them at all but that has more to do with Norwich City on the road than Suarez.
If you still had him, Emile Heskey would have scored a hat-trick against us on our travels at the moment. So I guess we may as well lose to quality goals. It's hard not to hate Suarez, though. He is a nasty piece of work.
The man is an amazing player, great goals well taken, plus an assist. He looks like he is doing everything right at the moment, and that includes not doing the silly things. He is great for my fantasy league team, scored 48 points for me yesterday. But why us!
I think there will be an announcement later. I just have a feeling. It's getting too much to stomach, every away game it is totally embarrassing.
