The City Till We Die campaign group met with the Premier League in London this morning. They’ve released a short statement, which we’ll reproduce in full:

CTWD today met with officials of the Premier League to discuss our opposition to the current name change proposed by Dr Allam. A positive meeting concluded that:

    - The heritage of British football clubs is valued by the Premier League as a fundamental element of its brand;
    - Any material changes to that heritage and brand should be done in consultation with supporters and wider stakeholders in football; and
    - The Premier League is prepared to approach the Football Association to discuss how these important matters can be protected within the framework of their respective rules.
As the organisers of the competition and the gatekeeper of the rules under which the competition is held, the Premier League and Football Association are effectively the regulators of the football industry. The Premier League recognises this role and will emphasise this in their future dealings with Hull City AFC.

What a great job the CTWD group are doing. Ever proffesional and respectful. A shame AA can't behave the same.

I'm waiting for a thwarted AA to come out with the news that 'Hull City AFC - the Tigers' has been found to be the best way of attracting income......and all the brown-nosed yes-men agree with him YET AGAIN......

I don't wish to be a naysayer however you have to define "consultation with supporters". Consultation doesn't mean deciding together, it could simply mean disclosure of intention, asking of opinions, listening to arguments.

Once this step has been conducted and proof that this step has been respected submitted, the owner could go ahead anyway.

Why not read the statement we put out and think about these questions.

Would we have put out the statement without agreeing its contents with the Premier League?

Do you think the heritage that the Premier League thinks is important includes the playing name?

Does it sound like the Premier League will be asking the FA to make it easier or more difficult to change a team's playing name?

Does it sound like the Premier League think talking once with a handful of representatives is consultation?

Finally do you think the Premier League will be having a chat with Hull City AFC about what's happening here?

Do you think that chat will be about how its his club and they appreciate he could do what he wants? or

Its our League, these are our rules if you want the golden ticket you have to play nicely?

Something for you all to think about.

I think with the Wimbledon situation it was either move to Milton Keynes or the club would fold so it's nowhere like similar.

I saw somebody on facebook justifying the name change by saying that they owned their house and they would call it what they wanted. I don't think somebody's house has the same level of national recognition and community support.
What would happen if every change of owner resulted in a change of name?
I don't think Allam Marine is the best name when it comes to marketing industrial and marine generators. I wonder why he doesn't change the name of them?
I think consultation doesn't mean having a binding vote but the Premier League and the FA would look at the evidence: more than 90% of fans against the change and no indication of any significant advantage in the change of name.

    All been said.
It will not be decided on this forum
Unless there are major new events I think we just have to wait and see.
I intend living in an anorak free zone with mature and reasonable adults for a while.
