Ask me again at the end of this year. I want to know how rooney plays in his deeper role and how well he excels. Atm, if neither improved, Ronaldo. He and messi are 2 classes above everyone.

I wouldn't have Ronaldo over Rooney.

I'd want them both tbh. It's no surprise that both have been the common duo within 2 of our greatest modern strike trios- Roo, Ron and Saha and Roo, Ron and T****.

I don't see how we would play any better football with just Ronaldo in our team and not Rooney. Quite frankly, I'd have Ronaldo in Hernandez's position and stick the Lil Pea on the bench. Imagine the wizardry of Nani and Ronaldo, combination of Ronaldo and Rooney and the crossing and heading ability of Ronaldo and Valencia. Frighteningly good.

I'd take Ronaldo back for Nani, Valencia or any of our other attacking players, but not Rooney. Ronaldo is better than Rooney, that I wouldn't doubt, but Rooney is the heartbeat of our attack, even when Ronaldo was here Rooney was the heartbeat of our attacks. He's the only player at United I wouldn't swap for Ronaldo. They're both very different, Rooney I think offers more to the team than Ronaldo and for that reason I wouldn't swap Rooney for Ronaldo.

No. Ronaldo plays only for himself.

Are you serious? did you watch united play when ronaldo was there? ronaldo was by far and away the heartbeat of united's attacks, he was the guy who was constantly going foward, the person who constantly scored the goals.

and nextly how in the love of god does rooney offer more to the team than ronaldo? complete english biast tbh.

ronaldo can header a ball, rooney can header a ball.

ronaldo can finish a change, rooney can finnish a change, thought not as good.

ronaldo can cross a ball rooney can cross a ball.

ronaldo can take a free kick rooney, has scored 3 in his career? or is it 2?

ronaldo can pass the ball, all be it its the one thing rooney is better at.

and if your going to tell me rooney tracksback and ronaldo doesnt then plese go watch real madrid play. ronaldo always goes back for corners etc etc.

if you seriously think rooney offers more than ronaldo to any team in the world you've lost the plot.

and you could even compare personal glories.

    ronaldo player of the year.
ronaldo fastest player to ever reach 50 goals at the biggest club in the world.
ronaldo most goals in a la liga history.
ronaldo matched the goals messi scored at a far worse team overall in my team.

    seriosuly think before you type

Noone is comparing them. The thread is about whether we'd have Ronaldo over Rooney and most United fans, correctly, would say no.

    HOWEVER.

Nowhere have we said that Rooney is the better player, we have said that Rooney offers more to the TEAM than Ronaldo and that their PARTNERSHIP was key to getting the best out of both players. I've said it in my previous post in this thread, it's no coincidence that Rooney AND Ronaldo were at the heartbeat two of our deadliest strike trios.

And i simply disagree, ronaldo is much more important to "the" team than rooney, look at real madrid for example, if they did not have ronaldo i dont think they'd have done half as well, and deffinatly wouldnt have won the copa del rey.

We aren't talking about Real Madrid though are we? For United, Rooney offers more to the team. Ronaldo is probably the better player but push came to shove and you had to choose one for UNITED, then I'd have Rooney.

What does rooney offer that ronaldo doesnt for the team.

what united are missing by the looks of it are.

a free kick taker alas ronaldo.
    a creative outlet alas ronaldo.
And a play maker, and all of you deluded enought to really think that rooney is the next paul scholes you've acctually lost it. modric would be by far better in my mind.

well thats what it looks like united are msising.

its also odd that with ronaldo man united won 3 prem leagues in a row got to 2 champs finals and won one of them ( after ronaldo scored ).

but okay if you think rooneys more important to man united, what can i say, deffinatly not deluded.

but anywayz no matter what united fans wanted or not.

rooney in the current marked would be 60m tops, and thats being extremely hopeful, while on the other hand, ronaldo would be 150m minimum.

The only thing that Ronaldo offers more than Rooney is his heading ability. We do miss the presence that Ronaldo has in the box. He was never the creative hub of our team in the way that Rooney is now. The best way to describe him is that he was the fulcrum of our attacks, especially after Saha's injuries and departure.

You are wrong in thinking about Rooney in Scholes's position because Scholes hasn't always played the deep lying playmaker. In fact, most of his United career. especially around the late 90s to mid 00s he was pretty much sitting being the forward(s), only in the last 5 years or so has he dropped much deeper.

A free kick taker doesn't overly bother us. What United fans want is a good set piece taker and Ronaldo was never that, he only took free kicks. In fact, I'd say we miss Hargreaves more in terms of his delivary.

You don't seem to understand that Rooney and Ronaldo are two completely different types of players. They compliment each other very well and if I don't believe that Ronaldo would have got so much out of Hernandez and Berbatov this season if Ronaldo was playing in the same position as Rooney this season.

Firstly, i know what postion scholes used to play, and by saying rooney will not be your next paul scholes i was indicating, that rooney will not even be close to as good as scholes and will never be an excellent playmaker, hes also much worse at long distance shooting imo.

secondly i think a free kick taker does bother united fans, maybe not as much as a set peice taker, and maybe it doesnt bother you, but most people would prefer someone who can take consitantly good free kicks, thats why alot of united fans missed beckham at first ( and his great deliveries obviously ).

And thirdly why would ronaldo play in the postion rooney played in, He'd play in Hernandez/Giggs postions, cause thats where he's best. and if you havent noticed, ronaldo can score more goals than berbatov + hernandez can join together, well currently at least, who knows what the future holds for hernandez he might score alot more than 20 next season, or a lot less.

And if you think all ronaldo offers over rooney is heading ability you dont watch much football do you?
maybe ronaldo doesnt offer the passes rooney does, but thats because hes not a playmaker, but unlike rooney he can get past his man and score over 45 goals a seaon ( in the prem to ).

its the otherway around, all rooney offers over ronaldo is passing ability, over than that, ronaldo is faster, more skillfull, better finisher, can get past a man and can take a free kick.

and i'd just like to point out, an out and out goal scorer costs more than a playmaker in todays market ( Torres ). and although you do have hernandez, who knows if he'll step it up a notch, or will he turn out a bit like bale and get caught out, hes going to have to add more to his game to continue to improve, and if he doesnt, id say a goal scorer is what you need no? im not saying he wont but its possible.

Lets not forget if sniedjer was to go to united he'd most likely take rooney's current postion, because man united mainly player 442, and sniedjer isnt an out and out box to box center mid.

so again that would make ronaldo more valuable to united.

it all depends how the future turns out, theirs a change rooney could be more valuable, and theres a change that ronaldo could be more valuable, its just that ask any other supporter in the world that supports any team but united, and im pretty sure i'd know who they pick.

anywayz if you respond i dont think i will, im off now for a couple of days, but whatever, just thought id reply before i left.

Exactly. Hence why I've said quite a few times that I'd have Rooney AND Ronaldo. You keep comparing Rooney and Ronaldo when they are completely different players that's why you can't say you'd have one over another.

Ronaldo is a better finisher than Rooney
He is better at heading the ball
he is better at free kicks
    he is faster
he has more skill when it comes to beating a man

Rooney is a better passer, and that's about it!

Rooney is still a world class player, definately top 10 in the world, but he isn't in Ronaldo's class, we are talking about a man who scored 31 league goals in a season playing on the wing, he was probably the most talented player we have ever had, I know some people say Best and Cantona among others, but I genuinely believe Ronaldo was in a different league to any other plater we've had, it's just ashame we lost him at 24.

Rooney gets overrated because of the English media, if 3 player in our side have a real good game, and one of them is Rooney, you can guarentee he will get the mention on MOTD and other football programmes, were as the other 2 players that stood out will be ignored. Too many people are influenced by the nonsense pundits come out with, rather than forming there own opinions.

If anyone truly believes Rooney is a better player than Ronaldo, then I suggest you start watching both players more often

I suggest you actually read what people are saying. Ronaldo is obviously a better player, but Rooney is more important to United right now. As has been pointed out ad infinitum this season, our midfield is weak. Having Ronaldo up front instead of Rooney would just leave it weaker, as Ronaldo wouldn't drop off and get involved in the middle as much as Rooney does.

If we replaced Rooney with Ronaldo and also bought in Sneijder, Ozil or some other proven quality attacking midfielder then we'd be ok. But if we just replaced Rooney with Ronaldo then we'd have a massive gap in the middle of the park. Ronaldo would be completely isolated up front, and would just sulk like he did for Real against Barca in the CL semi.
