    This is simple maths.
Now if Liverpool are offering Blackburn £22 milllion and Man United are offering only £16 million.Which one do you think Blackburn are going to accept.Arsenal also offered more than £16 million too.Uniteds bid in fact was the smallest.Man United now have to offer more than the £22 million Liverpool offered..or he stays with Blackburn.Bllackburn are furious over the fact that the £16 million thing got out, they never intended selling for that price.

The deal will be completed by tomorrow for 16.5m. You will see

Liverpool could offer 50m it would not make any difference

Sorry mate but you obviously don't know how to read a balamce sheet. United may have reserves at the bank of £180 million (BTW the letter m denotes thousands and not millions). Those reserves are not available in total to spend on players - the vast majority of them are already allocated.

Neither United or Liverpool will make public the amount that they have available to spend on players - it would be stupid for them to do so. However, that will not stop the stupid press from claiming that they know the figure.

As for the Jones situation. I agree with you United will eventually sign him. The devil will lie in the detail of the contract and the final figure will again not be truly known. It may well be that Blackburn are trying to maximise the value of the add-ons.

    No it would not kpr

    Foredeckdave

I know, Utd won't spend 180m which is in reserve more like 60-70m will be spent this summer. Glazers will probably buy a bit more bonds back and rest will be for a rainy day.

    Actually it's simple contract law.

When you transfer a player, you are not buying a car. You are agreeing a fee with the "selling" club for them to terminate the remainder of the player's contract. If, as has been widely reported and confirmed by Jones' agent, Jones' contract has a £16.5 million release clause then Blackburn are legally bound to release him from his contract to anyone who is willing to pay that fee. It doesn't matter how much more anyone else is willing to offer.

It's the same sort of term that forced the German clubs to sell Ozil and Sahin to Real for around £15 million and £8 million respectively despite them being worth way more than that. As soon as Real met the release clauses, they had the legal right to force the contracts to be terminated - the "selling" clubs were completely cut out of the negotiating process.

    KPR.

If there is a clause in Phil Jones' contract which is triggered when a club makes an offer of £16m then Blackburn have to accept offers of £16m they can't hold out for more money.

The disagreement is down to whether this clause says that offers of £16m have to be accepted or that offers of £16m merely give a club permission to talk to Jones.

It sounds exactly like the thing FSG would do. Spend big to annoy their main rivals.

Whilst that is true; you're counting on Jones actually deciding to side with a lower bid.

High bids usually accompany high wages; so if anyone has to make a decision then it's him and if negotiations are stalled at any point it will be due to him. The Venkys are still his owners; so they still, however small, have some sway when it comes to who signs him.

I cannot see anything other than United signing him. No doubt Fergie will just up the terms.

It would be a great coo if we could put one over him though.

Does everyone rate him them? I feel a bit out of touch not realy knowing a lot of these younger players.
