Today's Liverpool FC transfer speculation sees comments from two young Barcelona starlets eyed by the Reds indicating they could be ready to move in order to play first-team football. The Reds have been linked with 22-year-old striker Cristian Tello for a number of seasons and, with the forward struggling to get much of a look-in with Messi and Neymar for competition. "Taking that step will be quite difficult but I think we appreciate the role of each. As the years pass you want the role change and have more minutes." Full-back Martin Montoya is also thought to be interesting Brendan Rodgers, with Ian Ayre reportedly in Spain last week to discuss a move. Meanwhile out-of-favour Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri ( YES please!) could be a January loan target for Liverpool, say SportsDirectNews. The 22-year-old Swiss international has only been on the fringes of the European champions' side this season since moving from Basel and could be shipped out to gain experience. Another winger linked with a move to Anfield in Benfica's Ola John. The 21-year-old arrived at the Estadio da Luz from Dutch side from FC Twente 18 months ago and has only made 18 top-flight starts for Jorge Jesus' side in that time. Ajax are thought to be interested in taking him back to Holland on loan but the thought of a permanent move could put the Reds in pole position.
Montoya and Tello are good players but it is potential again. Fair enough, they are high potential and both would be coming as an alternative squad option so wouldn't necessarily have to play every game. I would joined you with the "YES please!" when it comes to Shaqiri. The only downside is it being talk about a loan. I'm sure you know my feelings on loan deals by now
I don't know much about them but what I do know is they're not playing first team football, they are young and would be in a different country in a different league. There are no guarantees they would be better than what we have. however, the game isn't about who has the strongest eleven, it is about the best squads nowadays. If these two provide us with more and more importantly, better options, so be it.
We have 1 senior RB in the squad (although Flanagan has started playing I'm still not convinced he's anywhere near top 4 quality). Montoya would not only provide real competition for Johnson but based on current form would be ahead of him for a starting spot no doubt.
Montoya, fine, we're limited for right back options. But whilst Tello is gifted, we don't need more young, promising players. We need someone to come in and start, who's better than what we have comfortably. Aspas may still turn out well, not given up on him yet because he's not had many games, but other than Moses, there's no senior wide player.
On form? Has Montoya been stealth playing for an English club then? PS...it was part of my reasoning. No idea how good the lad is but I am convinced that Johnson's days are numbered.
Strange isn't it? Start of the summer, most of us would have said it was our strongest position with Johnson, Kelly, Wisdom and Flanagan. We the bought Ilori too but it does look poor now.
On form Gary Neville would get into the team ahead of Johnson!!! Ok maybe not Neville, but you get my point. I meant on form as in, on Johnson's current form, who ever comes in can't be any worse, rather than on Montoya's current form
Well Kelly's not looked the same since his last injury (clearly not impressing enough in training either or he'd get some time), Johnson is playing ****, Wisdom isn't a right back, played well there but isn't fancied by BR and Flanagan just doesn't fill me with confidence despite his recent few games. What about McGlaughlin? I'd give him a go
We've already destroyed Kelly, Wisdom and Flanagan by playing them too much too early. Maybe we should learn our lesson
