well seeing as money is paid to players in baseball just to be able to even talk to them regarding a transfer..same principle.

so in answer to your question..why would they make a mistake?

these are the same idiots who have made the mistake of thinking a release clause is just something to be able to talk to a player. ****ing backwards.

You can't really blame them for wanting to get more money.

Blackburn have every right to tell clubs they have to offer x amount before they can speak to THEIR player. However to sign him they must offer more. This is how it works, clubs put a minimum figure on and then rise it if they wish.It could as I said and is mentioned in the mail that Blackburns owners may stiff United to the tune of £25 million.
Add that to the £20 million they are going to pay for Ashley Young, which is outrageous, the near £20 million they are going to pay for a keeper,it leaves nothing in the kitty to buy a midfielder, now thats something that warms my heart. As thats the area they are really weak.

Unlucky he won't be joining Pool
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...urn-Rovers-despite-Liverpools-hijack-bid.html Better paper

Plus @MOgdenTelegraph stated on twitte: Lpool did make new bid for Jones today. Odd. Player already rejected #lfc for #mufc, so tough position for him. Utd to conclude tmrw.

Also PaulPlunkettLT Paul Plunkett Sports Editor, Lancashire Telegraph newspaper stated on twitter:
Sunday Mirrors chief football writer says Phil Jones' agent has just texted him to say deal to Man United is done

Also Independent have stated Utd will get him http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ent-of-finalising-jones-transfer-2296409.html

Mail looking like laughing stocks now and so am I for believe them for a second:(

Also Man Utd will still get Jones for 16.5m regardless of Liverpools increased bid

Utd actually have over 180m in the bank http://andersred.blogspot.com/. Jones signing won't stop us from getting any other players.

He'd be a good signing, a good player for the future but we desperately need to strengthen our central midfield. I hope Sir Alex has plans in place to stregthen our central midfield or we could be in a bit of bother.

err, no. if a player has a release clause of 16 million, then the selling club can't choose to ask for more if someone comes in at 16.5, because it's contractually in someones deal. not rocket science.

I don't blame them for trying but if there is this clause in his contract then they can't hold on for more money.

tough **** on them really. if they value him much more than 16.5 million then he should have been given a new contract which didn't have this release clause in. they can dig their heals in all they like, but the fact is united have met demands put in jones' contract, so there really isn't **** all venkys can do about it. as confirmed by various news sites, the deal will be concluded tomorrow.

£16 million wasn't their asking price. It was the ball-point figure they settled on for clubs to talk to THEIR player. They have not told Man United that they can have him for £16 million,He's still Blackburns player until his registration changes hands. This is not over yet by a long chalk.Blackburn are going to stiff United for at least another £5 million. It will go beyond £20 million easily.

A Man Utd club official has spoken out KPR, we won't be paying 20m. We will be paying 16.5m

"There are no serious problems and it should go through early this week," a club official said. Initial negotiations were concluded in something of a rush because the player had been encouraged by England's Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce to sort the matter out before joining the squad in Denmark for the European U21 Championship.

Man United won't be getting Jones for £16 million,,Blackburns owners are intent on fighting United all the way.He is their player..they hold all the cards, and they have Ferguson by the balls and intend squeezing them.
