I think we need another window like last January too. The summer was good but could have been better.
He's had mixed success with his transfers but at least some of those who haven't quite hit the mark are young enough to improve. The problem there is we need players who can do a job now some of these younger players need to step up now. Rodgers also needs to have a little more faith in some, he's brought Alberto on for 5 or 10 mins he needs to give him a full game in order to see what he can do.
New thread right there; rate the transfers: Allen, Borini, Assaidi, Sahin, Sturridge, Coutinho, Alberto, Aspas, Moses, Cissoko, Ilori, Sako, Toure & Migs (don't think I've forgotten anyone?). Could also rate the outgoing deals too. PS...I'm not doing it though PPS...he's bought a few in hasn't he?
Can't afford a squad of nearly men and former youth players with limited experience and opportunities clogging things up when we need to concentrate on the present just as much as the future.
Ok two things: 1.) We have to move forward to grow the boys back to the glory days of the past. 2.) We need players who can step in now but have the future ahead from the time I was here unto which I will not be eventually. 3.) Do it for Lucas.
Rodgers did improve our first team by adding 2 quality players this sumemr - Mignolet is one of them, but unfortunately Sakho hasn't played as often as he should have. Rodgers needs to build that area of the pitch around these two. Unfortunately, defence will continue to be exposed by the shower of sh*t in front of them that is supposed to be protecting them and retaining possession. Alberto and Ilori were for the future. Aspas has struggled and injured. And Toure has been very good, bar the last two performances. We also have Cissokho who can be an asset if given then chance. He's received a lot of stick which I think is unfair - he was dross against Arsenal, granted but he's shown glimpses prior to that. Gives us another aerial presence at least.
If I'm right, Rodgers has already said that January is about improving THE FIRST TEAM, not the squad.
Surely that will depend on whether the Yanks fancy allowing him to heavily invest in the Jan window? I'd imagine that if they do, the caveat will be that he'll have to put his cock on the block to deliver top 4.
I don't see it as a heavy invest but can see about 20 mil being there for the right player/players. You would think midfield would be priority but Sturridge going down still shows how light in quality we are up top and then there are the LB/RB issues we are facing.
If we were injury free, I think Rodgers would have strengthened central midfield. But he probably didn't expect us to become so vulnerable to injuries to our full backs and striker so this may now be priority. Personally, sort the midfield out and the rest will come into place.
I know 20 mil is a lot for your club but Jimmy already said it, in this day and age that is looked at as the norm. Even teams like Southampton, Norwich, Cardiff are spending that these days.
