They finished above us, they have a bigger supporter base, and due to their history if we both go after a player with no personal interest in either club and offer them the same contract to play in the same division they'll probably pick Leeds, so on the basis of the two clubs a manager with no vested interest in either side would take the Leeds job if they were offered both. However it would mean working for Ken Bates, so if i had a secure job (as secure as you ever can be in football) at a top half Championship club I wouldn't take it. From NP's point of view he's been here a year and has, within the financial limits of the club, been allowed to do what he wants when he wants and is building a team. Having done last season with one arm tied behind his back I think he'll want to show us what he can do with his side, which as the entire starting XI will be his players or players he's chosen ahead of his players this season represents. I couldn't see him wanting it this summer, if we both fail in the playoffs this season I could see him taking it if he was offered it, but it's hard to see why he would be offered it in that situation.
You're right about history Ricardo, but Leicester also had a better recent history than us, and he still left them. You can't say it was for money either as they soon came into money, what with their take over last year. The thing that let's both Leeds and teams like Leicester down is the overpowering chairmen (as you said) that want everything their own way, which is detested by ,similarly, single minded managers like, Pearson.
Leaving Leicester was an easy decision, I think he knew he wasn't going to be there by the end of this season regardless of results because there was something about the new owners not bothering to speak to him. Had he been unemployed and approached by us both their better financial position would have seen him join them. You're always looking for what will bring you the greatest chance of career progression. Leaving us now he wouldn't have a particularly good record here, and then going to Leeds he'd be starting from square 1 again, and if he didn't suit Bates he'd be gone by the end of the season and the struggle to get another good job. Stay with us another season and his reputation will be based on the performance of his team, not on the remnants of two former managers' teams (us last season, Leeds this season) so he should be more confident, plus it won't make other chairmen look at him and think he jumps ship the minute a better offer comes in. Steve Bruce (other than the fact he's only a good manager not a great one) will never get a big club bringing him in to build a dynasty like SAF or Wenger because they'll look at his record of ****ing clubs off and decide they don't want the risk of him doing that to them to join Real, Barca, an Italian club or whoever. If on the other hand NP was unemployed and being offered both jobs he'd take Leeds because (as we'd have had a different manager this season) at both of us he'd be changing the team to be his own, and Leeds would give him the greatest chance of getting who he wanted in his team so it would give him the greatest chance of success, assuming parachute payments don't give us the financial edge.
We're a club that's run properly with good direction and that would be enough for Pearson not to want to go to TWS.
He turned down West Ham to remain with us didn't he? who are arguably going to be one of the teams to automatically return to PL, why would he leave us to go to another playoff chasers? Think he knows he's got a good thing here and will stay.
Leeds don't need a new manager, they've got Grayson, Villa aren't daft enough to offer him the job, he's ****.
I'd say that Grayson clearing up the mess left by Wise and McAllister and getting to the playoffs followed by a promotion followed by a 7th placed finish in the Championship - all of this while only spending £1.2m is pretty much a job well done. With a bit of FA Cup action thrown in too. His track record at Blackpool where he built the foundations which Holloway stepped into show he's not a **** manager as well. He's flawed but I doubt many others would have done as well as him considering the Ken constriction. But in fairness, Leeds allegiance aside, I'd rather work for Allam than Bates if I were Pearson. Nearly any other chairman and I'd want to come to Leeds but the lack of freedom, need for subservience and lack of funds in contrast with a big budget at Hull would definitely sway me towards staying.
knowing the ficklty of the generic position, and the regular manager go round, i d say within 12 months he ll either be sitting pretty for another twelve months or on his way. I reckon theonly certainty in football management is that someday your going to get the sack. Oh death and taxes as well!
McAllister's their assistant manager (currently caretaker). It'd be a bit awkward with him and the man who replaced him at Leeds having to work together, you'd think. And he might sound like a twat, but at least he doesn't sound like a twat with a monotone!
Listen to the end of his sentences, the way he raises the pitch and intonation simultaneously. Orgasmic. He's obviously done some media training, you can tell by the amount of cliches and nothing-phrases like 'at this moment in time' and 'for whatever reason' which he wheels out at every opportunity when being interviewed. BUT it's still more captivating than the soporific Pearson. I did try to find a clip of him boring away but all YouTube brought up was about 200 Nigel Farage interviews!
"You know, when clubs go through difficult times, that's when people get opportunities and I've got this opportunity and I intend to... you know... to maximise the opportunity." I want some of what he's been taking.
