How insanely hard is the end (and i'm playing on easy). Also, what should i play after i finish it? any suggestions?i havent played many pc games, so there's probably a lot to be suggested, although i'm playing on a laptop, so no graphics heavy ones.

*yes i know it's off topic but i'm not going to post on the godawful general board, i'm only interested in the opinions of the people on this board anyway

I found it easy, the easiest part of all the Half Life games, but I am experienced with FPS games.

Not graphics heavy? Quake, Quake 2, Hexen, Doom, Doom 2 ;) - Actually I would still get this if you haven't got them, better then A LOT of games these days.

Fear, Fear 2, Brothers in Arms (all 3), S.t.a.l.k.e.r (all 3), Far cry (both), Quake 4, Doom 3, Alien Vs Predator.

Those I can think of from the top of my head for FPS.

    RPG/Action: Mass Effect 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqBpRJ7qgaM
    Mass Effect 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2O-0-fQOOs&feature=related
    (3 is out next year)

Simulation: Silent Hunter 3 (German Uboat), 4 (US Navy Sub) or 5 (Uboat again) (These games have lots of mods from the community to enhance the game) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN6Gilf_7Y0

Puzzle: Hmm, don't play many puzzle games but IloMilo on Xbox360 Marketplace is good (If you have an Xbox and 800MS points?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKL6-0Jg3MI

Adventure: Can't think of one right now.

I think there was a modern Elite made, but the closest thing I can think of from the top of my head is X3 and X3:Terran Conflict, great game, very time consuming. There are also some very good mods for it.

Just get Team Fortress 2, it uses the Valve Source Engine used in HL2. Ive already racked up 50 hours of gameplay in the last month. it is great. I am assuming you have it if you have Episode 2 as TF2 came on the Orange Box.

Portal 2 has got some great reviews but I havent played it yet

Those games require massive patience and are huge in scope but very nice graphics. X: Rebirth is in the making now.

Edit: I got X2 and X3 for 10.99 on steam recently, you might want to check it might still be on offer.

I haven't really played PC games in about 6 years or so but when I did I was obsessed so you needing non-graphics heavy games brings me into this one haha. I'll suggest a couple for the hell of it:

First person shooter, look no further than Quake 3. Unbelievably fun game and by far the best Quake - tons of action and jumping around blowing **** up.
Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Return to Castle Wolfenstein are two pretty great WW2 FPS games too.

If you're into strategy/simulation you might enjoy the Civilization games. Civilization III or IV should run on your laptop totally fine (unless its an ancient laptop) and its great fun invading and destroying the French/Germans/Whoever you hate. Plus you can name your cities after Newcastle players.

Other - Minecraft. Assuming you've heard of it but if not: you can play it free online and it's first person - the whole point of the free version is to build **** with blocks and dig caves. Sounds sort of dull but its surprisingly addictive.

You can also get Sega/SNES emulators if you were a fan of the old 90s consoles, theres tons of the classic games for free as well.

If you want an elite type game only one that was made recently and this is going back a few years as well was Microsoft Freelancer, Elite IV is supposed to be in the pipeline but when its out is anyones guess.

For RPGs you cant go far wrong with Baldurs gate 1 and 2 + expansions, Icewind Dale + expansions, For newer ones, Morrowind, Oblivion, Dungeon Siege III (just installed this yesterday havnt had time to play it yet though), pretty much far to many to mention.

RTS = Settlers 7 i dont usually like RTS but this had me hooked, and its solid. (but really easy to pick up and play, just really hard to win, esp the last mission), starcraft II as well but your pc may not be able to handle it. Black and White 1 and 2 were really good as well.

TBS Turn based strategy = Total War series shogun, empire etc etc, Civilisations.

got TF2 yeah, since i bought orange box. Too terrible to play against other people since i'm crappy at FPSs. got 8gb of RAM on my lappy so it's not ancient, just the lack of seperate graphics card limits my games to some extent. Civ games are decent, but endgame takes too long to load IMO. Might have to get Mass Effect, looks good <ok>.

Black and White 1 and 2 were really good as well.

Not a gamer but even I know that everything Black and White are really good.

Just not enough hours in the day to play games I'm afraid. When my nephews were younger they used to try to persuade their poor old uncle to play their games with them to be able to thrash me, so I went along for the ride, but they don't even play them themselves these days. They've found out about girls.

Cheers, Bioware make great games. Fallout 3 was brilliant but I didn't get into New Vegas as much, need to go back to it at some point.
