Ultimately it's for the people of Scotland to decide what direction they want to take, but I don't believe they are strong enough economically to survive as a separate entity.
Swords was right, I should have added a couple of choices to the poll in addition to the 3 in it: - Its up to the Scots to decide, but I hope they stay part of the Union - Its up to the Scots to decide, but I hope they go independent Too late now, but you all get the gist. Got some mates I see Stainsey.
Interesting thread.... I'm not sure how well the SNP have thought it through but I would have imagined that they have calculated into their figures the possible job losses especially within the public sector, because certainly in the 90's whole rafts of public service jobs moved to Scotland including Revenue, Customs,Benefits etc. Now I'm not certain but if they did vote for independence I would have thought that these jobs would have to re-locate back to England & Wales especially the hundreds of thousands of paye tax records held for employees of English companies whose tax affairs are dealt with in Scotish offices around Edinburgh & Glasgow......Did i read somewhere that there is a huge number of public servants based in Scotland? Could throw a spanner in the SNP's works..... Just a thought.....
I think a lot of them dont really care about how much it costs, so long as they have independence. In a similar way to the Eurozone - if you had told people in the UK you join the Euro and the ECB - but it just happens to be called the pound in the UK, I'd reckon most people would have gone for it. Nothing to do with economic reasons - purely cosmetic. But being Scottish and not British or having the pound and not the Euro is what counts for some people. Not saying there's anything wrong with it
