    This. Solves both problems and makes it look like you like your mother-in-law which will earn many brownie points. That said, I ****ing loathed my ex-dragon-in-law so I'd have just gone to the match and ****ed her right off.

    I thought the point was to stay as far away from the mil as possible? not take her to the match? Explain the surprise, apologise wholeheartedly for the mixup, explain how money has gone on the surprise so shouldn't be wasted, put your hand in your pocket to treat your lady and the mil to something nice as an alternative (a bribe camouflaged with sentiment and kind thought), then take a mate to the match. <ok>

    In my opinion there is only one solution if you really love your missus you must go to the party and just forget about the match take it on the chin and move on, by the way as the tickets are not needed anymore i will pm you my address so they dont go to waste. Cheers.
