He didn't say anything disrespectful? He says the decision was justified, this was 4 months after the event. At no point did he say what was in the headline. He is only saying what everyone was saying at the time. Pochettiono moved us on.
Worth remembering the headline is an editorialised paraphrase and is not a direct quote from the player. Nothing he actually said is as objectionable. It looked less stable before he went off too. Chelsea's change of style had a lot more to do with that than the goalkeeper.
Yep going with two up front changed the game and Morgan's injury didn't help. MP had run out of opttions with Boruc and JWP already off.
No chance of loaning a decent keeper from the premiership, not now we're a top top club, I'm thinking Casillas!
What a shame we no longer have Barry to grace us with the 'Gashaniga' moniker. Oh how I miss his creativity.
I really don't get why people are voting Gazza over SKD? Have we forgotten how poor he was last year? Fonte was doing half his job for him last season!
Think Gazzaniga could be handy against Villa because of his height. With Benteke and Kozak both being tall and good in the air, Gazza will have that slight extra advantage claiming crosses over Davis which may be crucial.
Think, as Jose said at the time - that was due to Gazzaniga's poor grasp of English. I'd imagine that's improved since. I still prefer him to Kelvin, who has poor kicking, doesn't have a physical presence and repeatedly gets found out at the near post. I think the time of 'trialling' Kelvin is long gone, and this will give us an idea of just where we stand with Gazzaniga and his potential.
Disagree, Kelvin is experienced and organises the defence well. Just watch Gazza against Swansea, QPR and Norwich last season. Goals conceded and points lost purely because of him.
Circumstances are very different now. Even assuming Gazzaniga is as unreliable as he was then (which is a naive assumption considering his age), he won't be anywhere near as exposed now.
Kelvin may organise better, but that is due to experience accrued throughout his career. PG has not even had a fraction of this. As I say, KD may organise well - but the simple fact is he is slow, cumbersome and an unreliable shot stopper. In theory, Paulo's mobility, ability on the ball and distribution should suit our system to a tee. If Southampton Football Club's policy is to give young talent a chance, it applies to all. We did it with Luke, Calum, James etc. I say that we give the lad a chance.
I agree completely DTLW. Give him a chance. See what he can do. Which includes not getting on his back even if he does look slightly shaky on Wednesday. If worst comes to worst, the transfer window is open in 3 weeks. We could always look to bring in a keeper then if we have to. I've got a feeling Gazzaniga won't let anyone down though.
Paulo was dropped in behind the leakiest defence imaginable and asked to step straight into place. Even Artur had a mare or two behind that lot until he asserted himself. Paulo has another year of coaching under his belt plus he's behind a generally strong defence. I don't think we can make any ssumptions, good or bad, about how he'll perform. However (and I know I'm not the first to mention this so, apologies) we have a policy of promoting youth and giving people a go. He was fine for the remainder of the match yesterday under difficult circumstances; let's see how he does. Anyroadup, if Kelv and Artur are both out as rumoured, we don't have any choice anyway. Better to back him unequivocally than to show any doubt in our support at the game. Vin
I can see what people are saying in terms of a youth policy but the thing with that is, if we were going to give Gazza a chance then surely the League Cup would have been the place to do it? He didn't play though, Davis did. Davis has also been on the bench since Boruc claimed the starting spot. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that Poch thinks Davis is the better keeper.
