    Good afternoon lads.

Got a bit of a tricky situation on my hands. I booked tickets for Chelsea on Wednesday for me and my lass as a little treat.

It was meant to be a surprise, and today she tells me its her mums 50th birthday and a surprise meal is booked, and I MUST go.

Like any big safc fan, my heart lays at the game, and I am desperate to see the lads on Wednesday. It will be my only chance to go for a few weeks because of work ect.

Opinions please, and ill think ill act on the majorities thinking. Im completely split on this one,

    Cheers lads.

Hahaha!! This may eb the least even of places to discuss this - don;t think your lass will get much support on here!!

On the other hand - regardless of what Paisley says - family is the most important thing in the world and I would never put my football ahead of my wife and kids.

My vote - talk to your lass in a calm and meaningful tone saying how much you want to go to both - when she flies off the handle at you about it (as mine would), simply say "well **** it then - I'll go to the match if you're going to be like that" - she'll come around in a few days. Flowers do the trick for mine - particularly surprise ones delivered through the post when she's not expecting it!!

It's your mother in laws birthday, not your mothers. Ask yourself, why is your presence necessary? ;)

My advice- explain the situation. Emphasise the lengths that you have gone to organise things and keep it a secret. The fact that is was meant as a surprise should take the utmost importance. Show that it is important for you to go to her mams 50th at the expense of the trouble you have gone to. Don't allow her to get a word in.

That way if you do make the game it is on your missus' head. If not, she'll feel guilty and may feel the need to make up for it later :emoticon-0111-blush.

Tell the wife to **** off and take the mother-in-law to the match for her bday treat. never know, you could bond for life on the piss before the game and never have to face jip off her again.

Give your mother-in-law both tickets and have a nice meal with everybody else. There's always next match...

Your ****ed mate!!! Id explain that you've bought the tickets before you knew of the bday plans....see how she reacts. If you end up missing the game then make sure you use it as leverage in the future :-D

Are you a man or a mouse, even if there wasn't a match on I still wouldn't go to my MIL birthday.

Compromise...Explain to your lass what you have arranged and the money you have spent etc; then say that you don't want to let either your lass or her mother down, so can you arrange for just you and her to give her a separate treat out on another day, or possibly bring the time of the meal forward so you and your lass can do both..
