Easy, Gazzaniga. If Davis and Gazza are both playing as well as they can then it's Gazza all the way. He'll have zero trouble being the sweeper keeper that Saints want and he's a fine shot-stopper. Nowadays, Davis is a great number 2 and mentor and he can pass on his wisdom to Gazza.
I really hope that Gazza puts in a good shift (surely if must be him against Villa?) and then we do not have another poll asking "do we bring back Kelv?" Before Artur got the shirt, we had a torrid time where none of them looked convincing behind a very leaky defence. It's a lot better now, but should Gazza have a bad day at the office, then the pressure is enormous and I only want to see Kelv, love him though we all do, warming the bench from now on. The fans would soon get on his back because of his distribution shortcomings.
Gazza looked far more confident and assertive on Sunday. This was always his problem in the past. He is tall and should be able to cope with crosses, in his previous spell he would be glued to his goal line. If he has indeed overcome the fear factor he could be good. He certainly looks very athletic.
Where are we getting 6 weeks from? It'd have to be a very serious injury to keep Boruc out for that long considering the world class medical support he'll be getting, so I'm guessing that mid Jan is an absolute worst case scenario. In the meantime, it's Gazzaniga's chance to prove what he can do. I'm sure he'll step up. He had a bit of a nightmare last season, but he has a far more solid defence in front of him now than he did then.
The BBC are reporting the 6 weeks but there is no official confirmation from the club. As is said above, it seems a bit over the top for a simple fracture, i.e., not a compound fracture as there was no blood. Even if if it was a Colles fracture of the wrist a fit young man would recover well inside 6 weeks, so I would imagine Artur should be coming back in time for the Chelsea game on New Year's Day.
All surmise because we have had no official news, but I can't see them rushing back a goalie with a fracture. As said he will recover better than the rest of us (because he isn't relying on the NHS) but keepers' hands take a lot of punishment...has to be fully recovered or he will have a set back. My son had a broken wrist..was a couple of weeks before diagnosed as apparently a footballer reporting with pain in the wrist after a fall does not warrant an X-ray...bit of a sore point with me.
What a shame about Boruc but good opportunity for the Gazza. Good to see Gazza back on the mend, off the sauce and not talking to parrots.
We (Norwich) lost our keeper last year for quite a while. While the reserves (Bunn and Camp) were good enough shot stoppers, where their lack of 'experience' came in was on controlling the area. With Ruddy, he dominated the area, and the defence knew when he was coming and what he would claim. This didn't seem so obvious when he was out and Bunn and Camp played. Ruddy not injured would definitely have been worth an extra 3 - 5 points
Fair point R. I would hope our defence marshalled by Lovren can stand firm. Time will tell. A morale boosting clean sheet against Villa on Weds will help!
Davis is the number two, if he's fit he will play. Gazza is fairly useless in all honesty, more so than SKD.
Yeah Gazzaniga has always seemed quite quiet and lacked presence compared with Boruc and Davis. That will be a test for him.
I jokingly suggested Hart elsewhere but can't see it happening. However, if there was a chance of getting someone like Friedel or Schwarzer in then I'd look into it.
I'm not sure it's that clear cut. Our two first choice keepers are injured and according to the list on the Premier League website Gazza isn't in our 25 man squad, he's down as an U21 player. We can ask the Premier League for special dispensation. If they say no we go with Gazza, if not we possibly have a better keeper for some very tough games.
I'm not Davis' biggest fan. Comes across as arrogant, and in the case of Adkins' sacking, disrespectful.
However well Pochettino has done, I think the comments here were out of order: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22043824
Only basing this on the second half at Chelsea, but the back 4 looked far less stable once Boruc went off.
