It is a good thing that United could repay that loan through massive profits. Otherwise we would be in the ****. Honestly it is time that our legislators come up with a solution. Even our not so bright politicians can see that it cannot be good that the future of our biggest clubs are at the mercy of foreign billionaires. They must introduce some controls. Are they waiting for the same **** that happened with the banks to take action? If Allam can talk about changing names, what about uprooting the club to somewhere else? It has happened with Wimbledon and these were bloody icelandic ****s. Your owners could move Liverpool FC to the Wirral next to a massive new shopping Mall. What w/could anyone do to stop them
Were they bollocks outsted by fan power! They were outsted by RBS' refusal to refinance their debt, and all other banks realising how poor Liverpool's books were, plain and simple. The only difference between H&G and the Glazers is that Utd could afford to pay and refinance the Glazer's debt, whereas Liverpool couldn't afford H&G's. All the protests wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference if LFC hadn't been losing money hand over fist under H&G. All your fans' tweeting and bleating at the banks and financiers just gave them a good excuse to walk away from the financial black hole that was Liverpool in 2010.
You'd like to think you did Page, but the reality is that if they'd have not signed the contract that allowed RBS to install their stooge Directors, or if they'd have been able to liquidate other assets in order to repay the loan - then all the shouting would have counted for nothing. The Green & Gold campaign at United was well organised, well supported, vociferous & it had longevity - but it ultimately delivered nothing - as the Glazers managed to refinance the debt. To claim that Liverpool fans were instrumental in H&G's departure is delusional imo.
Do your homework tobes, there was no way in the world their tenure as owners of our club would continue once the cat was out of the bag regarding the debt, they knew they weren't welcome and they faced protests at all home games. It was I believe supporters who sussed out the offshore accounts that started alarm bells ringing and let's not forget the fiasco in Stanley Park, they were caught with their fingers in the till by supporters and the banks wanted their dosh back. Their time as our owners was untenable even before the banks started their legal battle to recover their money.
And the owners power has been obvious throughout the premiership era. Roman (Fat Rafa anyone?), El Fayed, H&G, The Sheiks, and many examples where things were done against the fans wishes...
Why would Chelsea,Fulham or City supporters want to get rid of owners that don't burden their clubs with debt?
Garbage that imo mate. The cat had scarpered from that particular bag not long after they arrived & the fact that they only put up £7m a piece to 'buy' the club & that the club was in essence paying for them to slowly purchase the equity, was common knowledge. As said, all the shouting would have been worth nothing had they paid the piper.
You're focusing on the opposite to what I'm talking about tobes, when the trust between us and them diminished and the pre-game demonstrations started and the bombardment of news agencies in Dallas and New York etc began they were on their way out of Anfield irrespective of the outcome of the court case. Fan power.
No mate. United were doing exactly the same thing & achieved nothing. Bank power was what made the difference. Had they ridden the financial storm, whether they'd have chosen to stick around, given the bad blood - is a different issue altogether - but making out like it was the fans that ended their tenure, is revisionist mate.
Similar to the Glazers. Except that the club was profitable enough to sustain that huge loan interest repayment. Effectively they got a £1 billion asset free via borrowing.
Whilst paying themselves £20m per annum in the interim........ They've flown by the seat of their pants at times, but (barring a total collapse on the pitch) they've managed to get themselves into a fantastic position.
It doesn't matter to us what happened at Utd tobes, I am jangling purely about LFC, if you want to talk about the financial aspects of H&G's departure fine but the truth is they found out the hard way-first hand just how much they were hated and stopped attending games due(sadly)for concerns about their safety. If you think our supporters played no part in kicking their swindling fat arses out of LFC sound.
