Sunderland are considering a sensational move for Queens Park Rangers' midfielder Joey Barton. The player, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, has been told he is free to leave QPR at the end of this season

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is frantically searching for a defensive midfielder and has seemingly set his heart on recruiting the former Newcastle midfielder Barton. The midfielder has enjoyed a good campaign so far this season with QPR and is reportedly desperate to return to the Premier League.

He wouldn't come, we wouldn't have him. A mismatch made in hell.

    Agent Barton.

He's a character. An awful one, but a character. The game needs characters, if only to play pantomime villain.

Frantically searching for a DM? 3 days after saying how he 'didn't know how to play Catts & Ki in same team'.

With N'Diaye also on the books?

That said, despite his failings, Barton is a very decent player and one who if we DID sign (we won't...) after a few weeks we may grow to like.

I reckon Barton (admittedly he's decent player albeit with a nasty streak ) would not be accepted by the majority of fans - he would be a bigger mistake than Graham IMHO

I hate Barton who I think is a total and utter ****.

He will not be signing for SAFC because if he did it would end any chance we have of stopping up immediately. Any goodwill or team spirit Poyets reign has brought would evaporate in a blink with the arrival of this and I repeat it, total and utter **** of a man.

Can;t see ANYONE of our fans liking a player who, whenever he refers to our club he strategically adds a 5 and a 1 to the name.

Barton can **** off - want nothing to do with him. Makes what Bardsley did at the start of the season look like charity work

So thats almost 100% against so far... So what if, inspite of the overwhelming response here, Gus still signs him?

Gus, who can do no wrong.

"Barton Signs" Now that could be an interesting thread in a few weeks
