Just watching the game after Sky plussing it.

Without wanting to get into the geographic issue (but knowing it will), but in the past I've emailed and had answers from specific commentators that have acknowledged they know where Hull is, and what the correct way to describe us is, so why would those same commentators keep referring to "Humberside" when they said themselves they know it's wrong and irritates people.

Is it a coincidence they did it more today than during other games, or are they just thick?

It makes for good alliteration with Hull.

That is likely why they use it tbf.

Surely only if they use them together, but they don't.

Alliteration doesn't have to be in direct contact, so to speak.

That's what my tutor tells us anyways. I disagree like, but I'll go with it even though it is incorrect.

You're doing wood work though. <whistle>

I can't see that being right to be honest.

Like I said I disagree with it.

But to be fair I disagree with a lot of things in journalism.

It just makes them look thick and ignorant for no good reason. They manage that well enough without doing it on purpose.

We are in the county of Yorkshire.

However we are near the river Humber and this region is sometimes referred to as Humberside.

A bit like Keswick is in the county of Cumbria, but in a region often referred to as the Lake District.

    Quite straightforward really <ok>

But that's not the answer they themselves offer. I think they reckon that answer's a load of bollocks to be fair, but don't shoot the messenger. <ok>

    P.S. The Humber isn't a river, it's an estuary. <ok>

Well Ben, it seems your voicemails consist of some bloke constantly abusing you about some name change.

Goes by the name of Craig. Know him?

........and when did you last hear of Cardiff's geographic situation in Bristol Channel-side. Or indeed, Brighton in English Channel-side, or The Kingdom of Fife in Forthside. Humberside doesn't exist and if it wasn't for the likes of the BBC and the Police stealing our heritage, the mythical area wouldn't even get a mention.

So no one refers to Liverpool as being in Merseyside? Newcastle on Tyneside? Sunderland Wearside? Middlesbrough Teeside?
We are a city at the side of the Humber so how can reference to Humberside be inaccurate?

Very little of this region is by the side of the Humber, that's a nonsense.

Liverpool, Newcastle etc were happy to be renamed because it gave them an identity away from other Cities, whereas the Humberside label links bugger all to even less.

So, if you are in Hull you are not at the side of the Humber?

if you are in Hull, you are also just below Beverley, meaning we must also be in Beverleyside. I actually prefer to live in 'JusttotheWestoftheNorthSeaSide'. In reality, I don't live in any of these. My postal address says East Yorkshire
