More money, if anything. I think the initial plan was not to bring in too many players this season for the sake of continuity. Right now it's looking like money will be made available for another attacking option.
Personally, I thought that if Chelsea looked average then they were made to look average. Saints worked their socks off today, and were good value for that HT lead. My only concern was that Chelsea would be able to get someone off the bench to make a difference, whereas our options were more limited. It didn't help that both Schneiderlin and Boruc went off injured and Wanyama was left on his own. I would have brought Cork on at that time, but I bow to Poch's much greater know how. But you were watching an entirely different game to me, CBK. We gave them a very good match. We will have much better days and plenty of them.
Oh well, we weren't really that great up front, fluky goal aside. Got a **** ton of work to do now so cya. #pray4artur .... seriously hope that hand is ok.
Yes, but you say it as an automatic reaction off the back of a loss. Not in the cool light of balanced appraisal. I presume if we beat Villa you'll be less inclined to suggest a slide might be around to haunt us.
Unless you have a Suarez or Van Persie who can create on their own, its still more down to having players create chances for the strikers you've got. Our crossing was poor today (was at Arsenal too) so no striker is going fluourish with poor service.
If we had played today like we did at Liverpool & Man Utd, we would have won. Saints lost that game, Chelsea didn't win it.
I thought Saints were average today. We didn't take advantage of the early goal and it was only going to be a matter of time before they scored. Chelsea were by far the better team and I am a little disappointed with the 2nd half performance. Osvaldo was **** - he needs to improve or he risks going the same way as Ramirez.
We need someone who can get the ball to them in the right places, though. While Osvaldo did little today, I'm not sure that the ball once reached him in the box.
However if we don't beat Villa we'll all be fearing the slide. I do think we'll beat Villa, but still.
Bang on. If we just had a Lukaku or a Remy (or from last season, a Michu or a Benteke), I think we'd have a very strong chance of a top 6 finish this season. And I think those names are fairly realistic - I'm hardly calling for Suarez or Aguero or RVP.
I don't really think he did anything wrong; neither goal was his fault IMO. He may have saved the first with more experience, but hid did a lot of things right today. Deserves that place on the Bench behind Boruc ahead of Davis. looks more assure in his area and far better distribution. Agreed. They worked out an effective way to beat our press, started by essentially by pressuring Fonte & Lovren, making enough space for runners to chase balls crossed behind our line. Then they started 'counter pressing' and getting in our faces all over the pitch, playing us at our own game Ramries in particular chased the ball like I've only seen Shniderlin do before. I suspect this change of tactic was planned as he knew that we would try and press for the whole game & the wouldn't have been able to keep up what they did 2nd half if they had started it from the beginning. We didn't put creative passes together because they didn't let us! Not because we were particularly badly; Mourinho knows Poches game better than any other Prem Manager as they've played each other before in Spain. They had a Plan and it worked to successfully disrupt our pressing game.
I agree, but no team can play at their best every game. Even City lose sometimes and they've spent over half a billion pounds on the worlds best players. At the end of the day, I would rather have a bad day at the office away to a title contender than at home to a team that will end up around us. Also, it was Chelsea that made us look poor by being better than us. I think you're reading way too much into what was ultimately not a terrible performance.
I thought we lost just like Arsenal, ManU, ManC, Liverpool, etc... might lose to Chelsea at home, or any other team. It is not lost on me that the media were suggesting that Mourinho's home record might be in real danger. That's the outsiders measure of where we are. Nothing small club in that. Of course I'm disappointed, but I'm not throwing myself off Itchen Bridge. I'm bloody well interested in the performance off our next match.
Well we did try to bring in another winger on loan on deadline day until he got injured. We lack depth which we all know. We need more players that can score as well as our strikers aren't cutting it atm.
