So United and Spurs draw and we are glad not to drop another place, but would we be better to accept that we won't finish above Arsenal, United, Chelsea and City. In that case, it is better for us if those 4 teams win every game (except against us) and we hope to finish just behind them. I know we have no control over that, but what do you think is best in the long run for Saints?

There's no guarantee that they will be the top 4. Arsenal is the only team playing well enough right now. We can finish above Spurs and possibly United. They're poorly managed teams and they're due a bad finish.

I like your thinking, but think we have a better chance of finishing above Spurs than United. Still it's an interesting league this year compared with last season.

Draws from any top half teams are good for us. It's only 2 points shared rather than 3 going to one team. There will be many draws, we just need to win.

I think we need to take a leaf from Mauricio's book and stop limiting our belief. He's convinced the team that there are no limits. We should buy into that. If you accept that then what is best for us is to play every single game to win. What happens to other teams will then be irrelevant (and certainly not worth worrying about as it's entirely beyond our control).

In truth anything can still happen.......Todays game will let us see what we are made of........If we get a result then for me we will end very near if not in a European spot.
To answer your question Fran I don't think it will make too much difference to us, as we still have to get results in our own matches the same as they have, to stay up there. If they win most of their matches it is not necessarily going to make a difference unless it is against us. I guess what I am saying is it is very much in our own hands and no one else's.........

Nah, sod it. Don't limit your thinking, Fran. Why should you limit your own team when they don't do it themselves. What's the point..? There's a difference between going around bragging that Saints are going to turn over every side they come across and being quietly confident.

Yes it is an interesting league this season compared to last. And the one previous to that, and previous, and so on. And the reason is we're there screwing up the accepted norm. The other thing is the collected football media are breathing a sigh of relief because for years they've had to keep writing how wonderful it is for us to be bored stiff watching similar teams win. Well that is changing for this season, or maybe just for this moment. Things do actually change. The stronger tend to stay at or near the top because they are the best equipped to do so. But if a club is carefully managed, spends the money at the right time and makes the right decisions, they really can join them or even beat them. Once upon a time, Liverpool had it their own way, with a little bit of Leeds and Nottm Forest thrown in. Then when the PL arrived they were replaced by ManU, then Arsenal, then Chelsea, then Man City. They have all arrived to stay because they have been relatively well managed and financially backed. The only one that wasn't is called Blackburn Rovers, and look what happened to them. Saints don't have to be a Blackburn Rovers, and you have to start believing things do change.

I'm actually in the group that wants to stay as high up as long as possible, but I keep getting told to forget the top four as our best chance is 7/8th (and that's from Saints fans!).

The best thing for Saints is that we get as many points as we can from every game we play, and sod worrying about what anybody else does.

Delighted with that Spurs vs Man U draw though.

I want to finish above Man United. I don't see why we coudln't, we've got a better manager, the team are playing with more belief. Arguably our players are just as good as theirs in certain positions (not Rooney or Van Persie's position). If we carry on playing as we've started, we will finish top 6. I think it all depends on whether we can keep this momentum up, or will we fade away a bit as the season gos on.
