Reminded me of this. It's worrying how much the club and Allam sound like comedy cartoon characters lately.
Sadly, I think you're right but there was that part of me that hoped he'd see some sort of reason. He is destroying the club inside out - no one will want to invest in such a tinpot operation that alienates and condemns its core support, rebrands itself without research/evidence and is led by a truculent unstable dictator.
Really, surely this was only the next step up? Suspect his next comments will be along the lines of "I'll transfer list a player every time I hear the word 'City' used on a matchday." The "he's rich so he must be clever" argument is one of the few comments that have made me chuckle from the 'pro'-name change lot throughout this debacle. Can't believe anyone's stupid enough to think that rich people are automatically intelligent, especially in the world of football ...
Not intelligent, just not as stupid as he is. You'd have thought he'd have hired an advisor or a personal PR manager by now.
PLT - the club reads supporter sites. All the offensive and insulting comments about him will have been relayed to him, if he doesn't read tem himself, which if he has the time to do I'm fairly sure he will. That's what he'll interpret as not supporting him, I reckon that's what bred this latest outburst. CTWD missed a trick by not condemning the I hate Assem Allam viewpoint and reassuring their stance that they fully support Allams ownership of the club but disagree about the name change. They really should have done that, maybe there's still time if its done quickly. But anti Allam and anti name change are now being perceived as one and the same. As far as that article goes, I've no idea about infringing advertising rights, the point about blocking supporters view is petty at best; he's not wrong, but for the tiny handful at the front who's views are blocked, only have to put up with it for 5 seconds at most as the banner passes. About the distraction to the players though he is spot on when it starts getting a bit tasty like it did at palace. The players HAVE to feel uneasy about the division and be distracted by fears it could break out into violence and spill on to the pitch. Away teams will look to capitalise on that to their very best. I know the events last Saturday were down to ridiculous and heavy handed stewarding and completely by surprise. But now we need to prove him wrong, protest peacefully and not give the stewards anything to pick a fight over.
What a ****ing twat he really is! Just a few months ago I, (probably most of us) were singing his praises as one of the few decent owners around. I recall briefly meeting him outside the Reebok Stadium in February and both my late Dad and I congratulated him on how well he was running the club - obviously oblivious to what he was planning. I've just been looking at a photo of the memorial plaque I organised for my Dad which states 'City Forever'. This was done before the name change plans became well known and was never intended to be any form of protest. However it now seems so appropriate, but it is genuinely upsetting that the whole club could now lose its identity and that this simple memorial for my Dad, who supported the club since the 1950s could be meaniningless. OK, I might be getting over-emotional but for what exactly? A futile venture at selling worthless tat in Asia and Africa!! What a load of bollocks!
I dont think people understand whats going on here, at least thats what I assume judging by some of the posts on this thread. I said a while ago this war will not end well. I also said Assem Allam will not walk away; that he will run the club down to get as much of his money back as he possibly can. This will now happen. First of all have no illusions, nobody is going to buy the club. Why? Because nobody will want to pay what Assem Allam will set the price at. Secondly, he ,as he has already stated will not put another pound into the club. You can forget about January and more than likely about staying in this league. The nightmare scenario is coming true. Hope it was worth it.
Good point this. I think it’s because we live in a society that largely respects money over anything else. Generally, you get more kudos from society for making 100k pa from advertising or outsourcing; than for working as a nurse, social worker or fireman.
Your solution then to give him absolutely everything he wants and never question any of it? Let him tell you how you can support your team and don`t you dare question any of it? Give him Hull Tigers and then bow to every idotic whim he has in the future? **** that.
How many times do they need to make that clear? It's been in pretty much every one of their press releases. There's no way you can blame anyone but Allam for this.
I've just had another look at the table from 11/12 and last year, we only got 11 more points last year. If he'd put his hand in his pocket in January I'm pretty sure we'd have got those 11 in March, especially if Barmby had the money Bruce has had, and I'll always be disappointed we never got to see him evolve that side fully. I would say that compared to what could have been said the 'anti-Allam' group have been pretty reserved. I've not seen much at all that's made me think that they've gone too far towards AA on here, its more posters abusing each other than abusing Allam. More and more people are saying they want him out but I can't remember much personal abuse towards him that's too offensive given the circumstances.
You need to have a little bit of intelligence to turn £20 into hundreds of millions though. At least he has balls and motivation. I think people are misinterpreting the fact that he lacks PR skills and football knowledge with intelligence. Quite sad that anti-name changers think he's stupid. This is not a Paris Hilton case, the guy seized more opportunities than you probably have, no need to belittle him in that way it makes you look stupid.
There's even some right deep horsey stuff about Allam posted on here. And CTWD statements say that, but they all call him thick as pig **** or an arrogant **** as well. They went far too offensive from the word go.
It was always going to go that way because CTWD welcomed with open arms anyone and everyone. They were never going to have control over what was being said.
Making money does not equate to knowledge or wisdom, far from it. You can't say this is merely a matter of 'PR skills and football knowledge', many of the things he has said are outright moronic and embarrassing. As has been said imagine if CTWD made releases as childish and idiotic as he has, they'd be laughed at and called idiots, why should Assem be any different because he's made a few quid? Perhaps one day he didn't have such an unstable mind with delusions of autocratic rule and refusal to show any care for those who think differently. He's now wishing death on those he previously stated he wanted to give a gift to in return for our welcoming of him many years ago. Maybe the money itself is what's made him so stupid, unreasonable and flippant.
I'm not on about people who support the campaign, I'm on about the statements themselves. They're not discreet, they're not subtle, they quite clearly make out Allam's a thick twat and a total ****. He may well be those things, but saying it quite openly to the world when 1) it's him you're trying to convince; and 2) he holds the complete deck of cards. Compare Allam controlling the club to a terrorist holding your mrs or kid hostage. CTWD opened fire all guns blazing at first contact. Completely the wrong way to challenge a man like Assem Allam. I said this to Obi and OLM at the time. So desperate to paint Allam in a bad light. That's the reason I haven't yet signed up to them and am waiting to see if they remain pro-Allam once it really turns nasty. I don't blame Allam for this outburst one bit. Back a wolf into a corner and poke it with a stick, what's it going to do?
