http://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2013/nov/25/top-10-sports-movies 10. This Sporting Life 9. Olympia 8. Slap Shot 7. Bull Durham 6. Point Break 5. Jerry Maguire 4. The Wrestler 3. Hoop Dreams 2. The Hustler 1. Raging Bull I'm going to have a think about this, but straight off no Rocky or Mike Bassett. GTF
Delighted to see Slap Shot in there. Not convinced The Hustler qualifies as sport, but it's a superb film. As for missing good ones, where's Senna? Or Kes? Or of course Rocky?
Rocky should be in the top five FFS. What about The Longest Yard? Point Break? How is that a sports film. Get to frig.
Brilliant film, the one with Burt in obviously. What was the football one with Ian Mcshane in called??
Googled Yesterday's Hero A Jackie Collins Film Rod Turner (Ian McShane) is a 35-year-old ex-soccer whiz who one day gets a second chance to reach for the brass ring. Suzanne Somers is Cloudy Martin, a sophisticated jet setter and international musical sensation. Once lovers, Rod left Cloudy in search of his own pursuits. Now, years later, they meet again when Cloudy’s singing partner and boyfriend, Clint Simon, hires Rod for the professional soccer team he owns. In spite of the team’s fiendish manager — and a suddenly complex personal life as he once again gets involved with his ex, now the girlfriend of his new boss — Rod is determined to make this second chance work. With an upbeat, pulsating soundtrack, top-notch sports photography and excellent performances, this is a film that will make you root for the underdog. Yesterday’s Hero is a story that sports enthusiasts, romance lovers, and music ears will enjoy. It’s a film to remember. Sound great, not seen it but it should be a separate list with Goal, Goal 2 & Goal 3.
