Which is why I expect a 4-3-3 with Dyer, Knockaert and Nugent against Millwall.

Harsh on Vardy, but id rather he wasn't pushed out wide.

    Could even go to 5-3-2/3-5-2

I expect Vardy to keep his place alongside Nugent. Both have linked up superbly this season and I dont find it a coincidence that Nugent worst performances of the season came when Vardy wasnt there alongside him. Nuge sits a little deeper while Vardy runs around doing the donkey work

I agree. When Wood and Vardy missed out against Forest, I regarded it as our best two strikers missing out. Now Nugent is back into the reckoning. What wonderful problems to have, eh?!

I make a good point when I say he had one in 6 before Saturday and was absolutely **** against Forest though.

Anyone who went to the game, how did Hammond and Ignasi Miquel play? Have either done enough to make the starting 11 against Millwall?

Mick McCarthy has said David Nugent is argubaly the best striker in the league

    Thoughts FF and AKCJ?

For the record I think he is a very good championship striker. Nothing more, nothing less

Thats because hes Ipswich's bane, hes only really taking note when he plays them.

Nuge would be able to goto any club in this league, that does prove his quality.

David Nugent is a fair footballer as I've always maintained ... not a particularly good striker, IMHO, and I doubt very much that he could cut it in the premier league now ... he never has before and he's not getting any younger ... his comments above show that he is aware himself that he should score more goals ..

He's miles away from Austin and Rhodes IMO.

A good striker in this league has a better record than 3 goals from open play in 16 matches. However you want to put it. That is poor.

Agree - and you are, of course, correct on the stats ... Nugent is right about it being a team game and all that, but the members of the team have roles within that team and the strikers need to either be scoring goals or creating chances for others in the mould of the target man that creates chances for his strike partner etc ... Nugent has never been that 'target' man so he has to be the chance taker ... and that is the weakness in his game, even at this level, never mind at Prem level - you've mentioned Austin and Rhodes but Ings and Fryatt will weigh in with more goals from open play ... Jesse Lindgard has more from open play and he is arguably not a striker and playing in a struggling Birmingham side ... I have no 'agenda' with Nuge, I believe I am just 'realistic' about his ability.

Actually he is wrong on the stats. 4 goals from open play

12 goals in his last 18 appearances with 6 from open play <ok>

Nugent also has 5 assists which was the most before the weekend when Dyer over took him

The number of goal attempts Nuge gets he should have far more 'doubles' on his CV ... and if you leave the Ipswich game out - it becomes 10 goals in 17 appearances with 4 from open play ... distinctly average for a striker by any measure ...<ok>

Try this for a stat - Aguerro for Man CIty to put it into perspective - 11 goals in his last 9 games - 8 from open play. Now I know we are not Man City (and for that matter Nuge is not Aguerro) - but fundamentally it realy just boils down to the 'ability' to convert the chances when you get them... and therein lies the real problem for Nuge.

Roberto Soldado 12 appearances 4 goal including 3 penalties and he is a 25M striker.

FF you was on Nigels back before and now its Nugent again

Simply ask yourself this. Who is doing better then Nugent at scoring goals for us?

Simply answer is there isnt any. As Nugent pointed out he has been our top scorer for the last 2 season where all barring 1 was from open play. To have scored 10 goals and people to be on his back makes you wonder

Strikers are remembered for putting the ball in the net not how many they miss. Matty Fryatt was wasteful before Nugent and no doubt you was one of the minority still on his back.

Nugent is the best striker this club has had since Paul Dickov first time around IMO. But if you think there was better?

I call it as I see it - which does not make me disloyal to my club - I have watched Leicester City under probably 20 different managers and watched hundreds of players in the blue shirt - I merely comment on their realative ability - I haven't got it in for Nugent - he's just not as good as you seem to think - IMHO.

I have to laugh at you assertion that Nugent is our best striker since Paul Diclov - that's hardly an accolade I'm afraid - Dicov was average too - but better than Nugent on chance conversion ..

Strikers are remembered for putting the ball in the net agreed - that's why I won't be remebering Nugent particularly when he ceases playing for our club ... in stark contrasrt to Allan Clarke, Andy Lochead, Rodney Fearn, Frank Worhington, Allan Young, Jimmy Melrose, Gary Llineker, Alan Smith, Emile Heskey, Tony Cottee and Scruffy Stevie Claridge ... and cameos from Collymore and 'Sir' Les Ferdinand.

I didn't overrate Nugent before he played for us ... I don't now.

... and just for the record I have never accepted a pigg-back from Nigel Pearson <laugh>

Difference in they was a very long time ago and the majority of them we was in the premiership

Trying to compare David Nugent to Gary Lineker is absurd. You need to compare him with other championship strikers and other strikers we have had over the years.

Players like Matty Fryatt, Steve Howard, DJ Campbell, Jermaine Beckford, Chris Wood, Jamie Vardy, Martyn Waghorn, Yakubu, Iain Hume, David Connolly, Barry Hayles, Marko Futacs, Mark de Vries, Carl Cort, Geoff Horsfield, Elvis Hammond, James Vaughan etc.

I would have Nugent ahead of the lot

You keep saying start Schlupp but what has Schlupp ever shown as a striker to warrant a start over David Nugent, Jamie Vardy or Chris Wood

Schlupp's best performances have come at left back when he inter changes with Lloyd Dyer.

You need to judge players by the same standards.

Nugent has faults yes and as I have said before and IUTBJF said. If they was perfect they wouldnt be playing in the championship and they wouldnt be playing for our club

In all the years I've supported the club they have spent as many outside the top flight as in it ...

Why give Jeff Schlupp a chance - because he has a phenomenal goal scoring record at every level he has played ...
