Am wondering if one of you stattos have the details of how many European titles each of the major leagues have each? Compare which league has been so successful and around when and the runners up side, lets plot it to see which is the best league this way instead of direct comparison. Lets leave out the titles from the 8 year ban for Englsih clubs too as that would be unfair on the English stats. Anyone know off hte top of their head which country has brought the European cup hom most times?

The English teams were far behind their European counterparts following the ban, it would have taken years for the English game to strenghten up to a level where English's teams could realistically Challenge for European Cup/Champions League titles. I.e. the European sides would have had an advantage for a number of seasons after the ban had been lifted.
I always thought the foreign rule which meant English teams had to leave some of their star players out of the team was more detrimental.
Good question. I think Porto were found to have been involved in some corruption the season they won the UEFA Cup or Champions League (I can't remember exactly which season it was), not sure about the others though.
Yeah that too. I think the foreigner rule affected everyone but more so English sides as players from Scotland, Ireland and Wales were considered foreign to English teams. If that makes sense.......
I would seriously question ever italian european trophy ever won. Raaaul is right aswell. The foreigner rule was a pain in the backside for English clubs in the 90s.
Personally I thought that ''4 foreigner rule'' in the early 90s was a joke.To include Irish,Scots and Welsh as ''foreigners'' was an even bigger joke.Well at least it was scrapped.
Ive always considered my trips to Wales and Scotland as trips abroad. Why I remember at school when all the pikey kids would go 'I went to Spain, Italy, Brazil, USA for my hols' I would make them look poor and tell them of my exploits to the sunny climes of 'Wales' & 'Scotland' Never seemed to need my passport either, felt like an asylum seeker.
I guess the purpose was to encourage clubs develop their own players and only sign nationals. It was crap though.
There was nothngt stopping English managers and players learning from the continent, just not in the competition, arguably England in its isolation from european football could have conceived a superior style in that time and that failing cant be put solely on the ban. It didn't help but was not totally responsible, only when Gullit ect arrived diets started to change players started to improve diets and training, they could have learned all of this whilst being banned. Looking at the title haul there's not much between the top three.
it does if you don't want a british team and Irish well that makes sense and so does scot and wales if they have their own national teams, all will be considered ok in the home rule if they all decide to have Britain enter the WC, cant have it both ways
Don Revie and Shankly used to control what the players were eating and drinking, it was there way before the likes of Gullit arrived.
Ok as I don't kow what they ate under Shankly why don't you pop up the menu and have a gander what was eaten then, compared to now. Surely things have improved so much since then, as they have improved since the italian diets came into footie in England
