IMO Ronaldo and Messi are the best of all time. The likes of Zidane and other Ronaldo are up there with them but I just can't take players from decades ago seriously. I know they were talented in their day but they'd just be laughed at now. The professionalism, training, nutrition etc is so much better now that even players we consider average would be better than a time-travelling Maradona or Pele in my opinion. Lev Yashin is the exception to my rule though.
It is a good article. Another argument I hate is the 'World Cup' argument. If somebody came along who was 100 times better than any player who came before, but played for Andorra and therefore never qualified for a major tournament, does that instantly make him not good enough even though he's 100 times better?
Messi is the best... Why? Because he can do things that no one else could. His unbelievable goal scoring record speaks for itself.
I might as well say it now - imho I think Zidane is the greatest ever. Well he's my fave player ever, anyways. Macca a close second.
I know what saying, but you have to remember they'd of had same level of conditions if they'd of been in the same era
I don't think Ronaldo is really a cock. He gets frustrated on a pitch because he is extremely competitive, something which I can completely relate to, and he doesn't dive anywhere near as much as he used to when he was just starting out his football career. He might seem to love himself a bit but if you watch any documentary on him it shows you how important his family/friends are to him and that he isn't as bothered as it would seem about material possessions.
Thanks Macca, it is a good point you make but is it not important that messi has not performed consistently well in WC's in a team that isn't up to the same standard as barca (without the aid of iniesta and xavi) ? Maradona for me stands alone here.
I'm not saying that, i'm saying that the idea that somebody must win the WC to be considered 'greatest ever', which is an argument always aimed at Messi, is stupid.

****ing class hattrick. If I recall he did it while Euro 2012 was on, that's probably why it wasn't noticed as much as it should have been.
He's started performing well for Argentina as he now has a manager who wants to utilise him. He had to compete with having Maradona the nutjob as a manager at the last WC, even still he was the best Argentina player bar none
That last goal is just something else. To my knowledge it was last Sept/Oct, so there were no Euros. Just blatantly ignored
