That actually sounds quite good to be fair. Until you realise you're still 6th in England! But credit where its due. It just goes to show how powerful the EPL is in comparison to all the other leagues. To be honest, I think when you're measuring how "big" a Club is you also have to take the Club's history of success into account. Spurs have won two league titles in the mid-20th Century and a fair few FA Cups along with two UEFA Cups and a CW Cup. That's not bad to be fair. And you also can't forget qualifying for the CL and getting as far as, what was it, the QF? I can't believe Liverpool are still up there. I suppose they have a huge World-wide fan base but if you were to take sheer pound-noted "value" out of it, I would say that currently Tottenham are a "bigger" Club than Liverpool. Any signs of building a new Stadium? Because that would really be the next step to becoming one of the "Super Clubs". Your buddies down the road have made that leap and maybe it'll start to pay off for them now. Do you think you would need to move to a bigger ground to realise your potential?
Personally I thought it was a load of crap written by someone who consistently abuses his position as a mod to post cynical put down comments on anyone who ever dares to post on "his" site, anything remotely complimentary about what Redknapp did for us.
From the comments on here over the last few days, the only manager Spurs fans will be poaching is AVB. After they've beaten, scrambled, boiled and fried him.
Let me reply to this, first mods are allowed their opinions just the same as anybody else. We are just posters like everyone else. I don't think your comments are fair OS I have always praised Redknapp for his policy of letting footballers play their game. I have said many times that is my kind of manager, however I have opinions about his other attributes which are not so complimentary. Just as you have OS about Freund and Sherwood and AVB and many other characters in football. You seem overly sensitive about Redknapp, I don't know who you are or how close you are to him but whatever the case this a football debate on the Spurs site and it must be expected that there will be differing opinions on many Spurs characters. Talk of abusing my position I take seriously and ask you to justify that comment or withdraw it. If on the other hand posters are not happy with my efforts as a mod please make that clear. We are all here by consent only.
Some people have an unhealthy absorption in football and with famous people (amongst other things). To others the idea of communicating and debating such subjects is what social media is all about. As those of us who contribute to this particular social media forum can attest, Spurf has always posted with a rich sense of community and consciousness. The majority of us on here are like-minded people but as in life itself, we can always find a level of disagreement with each other. The accomplishment is not to react like an uncritical fanatic every time you see sometime that doesn't meet with your personal approval. Furthermore, I have yet to see a single overly cynical post issue by Spurf, he is an unbiased Moderator. I have enjoyed reading his posts and I look forward to reading a lot more from him.
I have usually respected the opinions of O.S. But not this time, I'm afraid. I agree that his comments are unfair and more than a tad O.T.T. As far as I' m concerned you're doing a fair and reasonable job. If you were like Peskie - good at dishing it out - not so good at taking it, then I would take issue. But, that's not the case.
Now now, boys. Seems to me like OS's comment's a bit harsh but then I don't know the context/history of why he'd say that. However, speaking as someone who does not know OS, has no direct involvement with the club, certainly has never met Harry Redknapp and was no great fan of his either as a manager or a "personality" before he joined Spurs, I can totally see why OS (and, as far as I can see, any Spurs fan who really appreciates where we are as a club, what we want, where we've been in recent history) would feel huge frustration with Harry-bashing. And perhaps even take it a bit personally. Because as a fan of Spurs, which is a football club, the very most important thing to me is not what quotes get picked up by the tabloid press, it's not whether or not our manager is an old-fashioned guy who thinks the England job is the pinnacle of any Englishman's managerial career, it's not whether some players don't like the manager, it's results and performances on the pitch. That alone - that's what being a football fan is really about. Yeah chatting away about football is great too. But the real rush, the real excitement is the games, the goals, the big nights in Europe or a cup. And I'm incredibly grateful for Harry for providing all that. We were bloody brilliant at times under him, weren't we? How can anyone deny that? And I see no reason why he should not take great credit for it. There is no doubt that he was our most successful manager in decades. Yeah the competition might not be great but so what? In a way I sort of take it a bit personally when Harry is slated cos it sort of feels a bit like slating the memory of some fantastic Spurs-supporting moments. Many more than I've been used to over my 37 years. All that talk of "next level up" or whatever sounded, literally, like people were talking abut computer games. As if, just like in PC management games, the best players can be bought on the cheap using graphs and stats and, doing this, Accrington can win the Champions League in five years or so (just remember to increase your stadium capacity to 80,000 overnight by pushing the "build new stadium" button). Now talk of how Harry was holding us back from going to "the next level up" sounds a little separate from reality. Many people wanted to get rid of the manager who got us out of a hole, then got us 4th 2 years out of 3. I have just never understood it and I can't help but wonder how much it has to do with the fact that matches only take 90 minutes once or twice a week but forums like this and thousands of sports websites and radio stations are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and sometimes people get more into that activity than actually watching/supporting football teams.
Have no problem with Spurf as a mod,all our mods are fair,i know os is a Harry fan,and i like harry,he done a good job when he came in,but then tarnished it with his pursuit of the England job, taking his eye off his role of Spurs manager,i don't think it would be a good idea having him back
I'm happy with all the mods, good bunch of lads. Enjoy the work they do on here to keep it a good, opinionated, friendly banter forum. (PNP, YV, Spurf - I'll be taking that fiver now). Joking aside I seriously have no problem, think this board is a good laugh, as I've mentioned a few times before, prior to Not606, I used to remain on a forum for about a month (if that) before getting bored of the posters and topics. Been here since August 11 which says it all really Back to the manager topic, I personally believe Harry is an outstanding manager. While he may not have many trophies to his name, you only have to see the work he's done with most of his clubs to realise that he's a gifted man manager - the players who never liked him were ironically the players that were dropped due to poor performances or poor attitude. I never understand why many people criticised him for the financial meltdown of his past clubs, Harry wasn't in charge of finances, he spent what the clubs allowed him too, if they didn't have the actual money to spend then more fool them. I really hate it though when I see Spurs fans slag him off, I think many have such short memories of what the man did for us, Twitter especially is rife of idiots that happily slag Harry off despite the fact he took us from the bottom to 4th in 18 months yet they show some blind allegiance to AVB when so far, the man hasn't done anything for us apart from spend lots of money, play boring football and have a dig at the fans - all while the club originally stated that he was going to "take us to the next level".
Do the Mods usually get openly sledged over here? I did that on my Board once and got a three month ban!
The mods on here are just the same as anyone else. We don't enforce any special protection from criticism. One of the few rules on here is that people can't insult each other, but we think it's better for everyone if the moderation is up for discussion. As for Redknapp, I think that he largely did a good job, but he hung himself at the end. Flirted with the England job, failed to deal with another poor finish to a season, made some strange selections, then pushed his luck on the contract situation. Bringing in Rooney's agent wouldn't have gone down well, but trying to force things when Levy was facing his mother's death was just stupid. Playing up the disruption to the squad when he'd done the complete opposite only a few months earlier probably wasn't too well received, either. Can't say that I blamed Levy for letting Redknapp go at the time, but I wouldn't put it past him to bring him back now.
