This debates been done a million times, but he was, if he's stayed fit it would have been a while different story. But Defoe is on a different level, he's played about 50 times for England and scored hundreds of goals. I don't think for one minute that he'll be coming here, but shane long isn't half the player defoe is.
I don't understand why Long is going to be £6M when he's got 6 months left on his deal. WBA aren't worried about going down if they sell him surely? Should be able to do it for half that amount, maybe if they're holding out have a hefty top up fee added to it for if we survive this season or get promoted back with him in the side next season*. Say £3M with £2M for us getting another PL season? *I think we'd easily stay up with him, but I'd offer the clause for either eventuality as WBA might not be so confident in us
They have an option to add an extra 12 months to his deal, which means in theory his deal is 1.5 years.
My sentiments exactly. Not sure why anyone would want Long over Defoe either, Defoe's in a totally different league (metaphorically). Either way, I'm not sure who people think are going to pay for either of these.
We, will lose Graham to the crater faced ape Some might describe it as a close escape But it free up a slot, for a loan on the go I cant see it happening ,but i hope its Defoe
Defoe clearly the better player, I don't think that's in dispute. As much as I would love us to sign him, the wages are a non-starter. As Ricardo has said, I would have thought we could get Long for a lot less than 6m, with only 6 months left on his deal I can't imagine anyone lumping up that kind of cash for him, and I don't think he's worth that sort of money. I think he would fit in to our team well, and as he's already pals with the Irish contingent I think he we would slot in easily and not have any impact on on the group dynamic/mentality. Do we have any other names in the frame?
You keep saying that. Word in the VIP area on saturday is that we have already done some business with Spurs for Jan. After getting Hudds and Liver Dont rule anything out. Especially now. Correct. Spot on. Yes he would. Long on a permanant and Defoe on a loan. Defoe's future after the summer is in the MLS according to Spurs fans.
I'm actually looking forward to the January transfer window. Although I'm a little worried somebody might try and rob Brady from us. Or that Livermore will be recalled.
I would not blame any of our players for wanting away. Who in there right minds wants to play for a club where it's own fans are more interested in causing problems. Spurs dont want Livermore and Brady wont interest the clubs that could afford him. Santa.
After last night's performance we can cross Long's name off (Defoe's was never on). Either Long will re-sign for West Brom on an improved contract or a bigger club than us will get him in Jan.
FourFourTweet ‏@FourFourTweet Tottenham's Jermain Defoe has agreed to a switch to Toronto of MLS in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.
After all the goals he's scored in the cups, then their hammering at Citeh and he, Defoe, not even getting on the pitch, he's thought "Right, I'm off.. anywhere but where I'm not wanted" and it's Beckham who has put up signposts on the yellow-brick road
They say Toronto will offer Defoe 90 grand a week in January. I wonder, if City offer him 100 grand a week for the rest of the season (19 games = 1.9 million), would he ensure we stay up ? He'd get a lot more visibility playing for City than being stuck on this side of the Atlantic playing in a Pub League, which I can't see would do his chances of going to Brazil much good. Is it worth the risk - 1.9 mill to keep us up ? I'm sure some team over this side of the pond would come back later to offer him the same contract if he does the business for City and gets himself onto the WC squad.
