I think that Phelan is the most sensible suggestion I have heard since all of this debate began about potential replacements. But even if that was to be the case I would like to retain CH in some capacity because noone can deny the quality he has brought to the club. Our away form will be the end of him though as we look so vulnerable.
I would also like CH to stay at the club as he obviously knows how to buy decent players,and is a wonderful ambassador he seems a lovely guy and ditching him would be quite harsh but we all know it`s a results business and failing to beat Palace would pretty much destroy any confidence from McNally and the board.

I would say he'd be on dodgy ground only if we lose to Palace. A draw is not the end of the world, not ideal though, as it will probably result in us being back in the bottom 3 after the Liverpool game!

Yeah Solskjær only left United in 2011 after several different coaching roles and managing the reserves. Although Phelan left the season before OGS joined he returned in 1999 and was the first team coach from 2001 so they will know each other very well.
Apologies - showing my youth and inability to properly research. I still think he was quite defensive minded and was Ferguson's conservative foil. I can only vaguely remember him as a player (if my memory is even correct at all) and for some reason thought he played predominantly at right-back for Man U, though admittedly I have probably seen one bit of archive footage...
Defending Hughton based on his signings is a tricky one, as we don't know how much is down to him compared to his scouting team, or what someone else would have done with the funds available. Yes our signings have been good, but we had a pretty serious budget this year so any half decent manager should gave been capable of bringing in better players than we already had. However, we know Chester is highly rated, as is our goalkeeping coach, and would we lose the pair of them in an overhaul of the managerial staff?
