An improbable return for Harry Redknapp to Tottenham... surely not?

Written by Dan Coombes 11:40 26/11/13

Andre Villas-Boas has his back to the wall after Spurs' 6-0 defeat to Manchester City, and the vultures are circling.

The Metro reported this morning that the manager is 'fighting for his future', and the bookmakers are right now already speculating over his future.

And a quite improbable name has re-emerged... former boss Harry Redknapp.

Bookmakers Paddy Power slashed the odds on a return for him this morning, naming his as second favourite.

Prior to that, Harry Redknapp could be seen with Bet Victor at 66/1, and Stan James at 20/1.

Redknapp is currently at QPR, where they sit third but level on points with top side Burnley, separated by goal difference, with Leicester also in the mix.

Different levels aside, his QPR team have conceded just eight goals all season in the Championship, two more than Tottenham did in a single game against Manchester City.

Redknapp managed Tottenham between 2008 and 2012, leading the club to two fourth placed finishes, and the Champions League quarter-finals.

A flirtation with the England manager job, and a poor end to the 2011/12 season, combined with Chelsea's Champions League spot making their fourth placed finish void, cause Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to decide to part ways.

We certainly don't expect Redknapp to be driving back down Hotspur Way with his car window down any time soon, but who knows, anything can happen in football, right?

Would you take Redknapp back at Tottenham?

I would have thought the Southampton boss would be far lower odds

Id be delighted if either of them went there.

I would hope we gouge them for a massive payoff as well.

Not a chance, Levy would never have him back. Harry to Portsmouth maybe nearer the mark but as they are brassic lint so i cant see him going there, and i hope he stays just to piss Flyer off.

A massive payout wouldn't even look at the £120m we might lose by not going up.

    Unbelievable.

Harry was on Talksport this morning and his reaction when talking about Levy would suggest not a chance of this happening.

I did not hear that interview but I am not surprised. Just from a distance, I would much rather work for TF than Levy.

When you call someone a moron, at least spell it right or you end up looking stupid yourself.

Or we could go up under a forward thinking manager who plays entertaining football and won't be looking to sign the likes of a 32 yo defoe in the summer.

When you get odds on Klopp to Spurs it just shows how ridiculous the betting market is.

14/1 on Jurgen Klopp, not a snowballs chance in hell. Just signed a new contract with Dortmund with the statement 'echte liebe'. Wouldn't put my money on 100.000/1 even.

Dortmund tweeted this picture on the 30th Oct. #echte liebe

And for bookmakers to even give odds on it, but 14/1!!! Who in the world are stupid enough to make a bet like that?!

14/1 on Jupp Heynckes, retired. For him to come out of retirement, 0,01% chance. To manage Spurs? <laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh>

20/1 on Alex Ferguson, 33/1 on Pep Guardiola and the list goes on. It beggars belief!

Everyone of these odds are as unlikely as Harry going back there.

But I guess we'll have to get used to it, having one of the top 10 managers in the land and playing in the Championship is bound create media attention every time a manager in the Premier League is struggling.
