    friv·o·lous (frv-ls)

    2. "Inappropriately silly:"

    I totally disagree.

There's nothing frivolous about the appeal.

It wasn't even a tackle as neither player had the ball and Adams wasn't even knocked off his feet.

If Brown had ran that distance to tackle Adams, who had the ball, that's one thing but he was trying to reach the ball first ........ which he did.

I'd put £100 on the card being rescinded.

And not to mention Fletcher being kicked AGAIN , and nearly seriously injured by the goalie.

No, the decision stands until the appeal is decided. I might be wrong but that's how i always understood it.

So, if we had 3 games, in the time they take to decide, he could miss all three but have the card rescinded.

    ??????????????

Sunderland have lodged their intention to appeal the red card given to Wes Brown in the 2-0 defeat away to Stoke City.

Brown was shown the red card in the 36th minute of the game for a tackle on Stoke’s Charlie Adam.

Brown went into the challenge with Adam after mis-controlling the ball and after brief consideration, referee Kevin Friend showed the Sunderland defender the red card.

Replays showed that Brown won the ball cleanly, but after he won it, there was some contact with Adam.

It is understood that Sunderland have until 1pm, Tuesday November 26, to submit their appeal formally over Wes Brown’s red card.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Poyet says he would like an answer as to why match official, Kevin Friend, arrived at that decision.

Sunderland's Brown walks away after receiving his red card at Stoke

Poyet said: "I hope, maybe I am the first foreign manager to get a call this week from Mike Riley.
"I know that Steve Clarke took a call last week. It happened at a key moment when we were trying to come back. We were then put down to ten without explanation.

"If we take every danger out of the game then what do we do? You must then give a penalty for Asmir Begovic's challenge on Steven Fletcher in the second half.

"Brown's wasn't a foul but Begovic's legs were up at chest height with studs. I need someone to explain this to me please."

The incident overshadowed a competitive encounter and Poyet is unsure as to where a line will be drawn.

Poyet added: "So now we say you cannot tackle, you cannot commit? We were losing 1-0 away in a Premier League game in England."

Brown has also had support from Sunderland teammate John O’Shea who said:
"When you see the replays of Wes' tackle it's frustrating, but obviously it's one of those things. It's so frustrating.

"We were a goal down at that stage but I thought we were in clear control of the game and it gave Stoke a massive, massive lift.

"The ref's not had the best of days, has he? Hopefully the red card will get overturned.”

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has also come out in support of Brown.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Gallagher said: "I can keep this very short. We have to take it smack on the chin.

Brown heads down the tunnel at the Britannia after being sent off

"The referee has lost concentration or not seen it. It is not a red card, that's all you can say.
"Brown's gone in hard but he's entitled to do that. As a refereeing body you have to take that smack on the chin."

And Gallagher also felt Phil Dowd had made a mistake in failing to send-off Everton's Kevin Mirallas for his high lunge on Liverpool's Luis Suarez in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Gallagher added: "He should have been sent-off. "He's come at speed and it's high.

"The referee has got a body between him and Suarez and he hasn't seen it."

Which is totally acceptable in a contact sport.

There was no intent whatsoever to hurt Adam.

Don't matter when you play for the less trendy clubs, as far as the FA are concerned clubs like Sunderland are nothing more than a necessary evil & best forgot about, that's why if an English international joined us he would soon lose his place in the England side, personally, I think there a lot of questions the FA need to answer, hopefully honestly!
