We'vre all been saying it here and there but I think enough is enough. Gerrrard and Lucas do not working as a holding midfield pairing. They are both fantastic players by themselves, but side by side they don't compliment each other, in fact its more like an insult. Put Lucas central as the only holding player and he is one of the best, most tidiest and efficient in the league. Play Gerrard further forward like he did v Fulham and he is world class. But side by side they spoil each others strengths and we dont get the best out of them. I feel Lucas does better than Gerrard here but neither are at there best. I want to see one holding player, and two ahead of him. This could be a diamond or a 433. But lets not have Gerrard and Lucas side by sid any more! -------------Lucas----------- ----Henderson-----Gerrard---- -----------Lucas---------- --Henderson----Gerrard---- ----------Coutinho---------
-------------Lucas----------- ----Henderson-----Gerrard---- -----------Lucas---------- --Henderson----Gerrard---- ----------Coutinho--------- perfect formation to have tried Suso instead of Henderson as well, shame. might be a bit vulnerable then though, not sure. be good to play formation at home games.
this is the theory that rodgers puts forth. it never seems to work that way however. I have heard him talk about flipping the 2 and 1.... but the reality is that when he went and out on moses and then sturridge we looked more and more exposed and out of control of the game. gerrard was blown away yesterday. barkely is already the best scouse player at a merseyside club. take note!
Stats wise Gerrard was slightly better but it doesn't take away from your point Barkley is the real deal.
It was Gerrard giving the ball away, that lead to Pienaar putting Lukaku clean through. If he buries that, then the spotlight would have been on Gerrards legs today imo.
Again, down to Gerrard when we don't win? Come on, so it's Gerrard's age as to why everyone was getting through? So what is Lucas, Henderson and Allen's excuses here? Thank **** for Gerrard's assists once again I say.
There were a number of mistakes from everyone really. Johnson gave away possession, which led to Lucas making a foul and conceding a free kick (which I think led to the second goal). By the way, Johnson seems to have escaped criticism - one of our worst players yesterday.
No he was getting it with both barrells from many on here, especially Donga. He more than anyone I think needs competition. He must feel so comfortable knowing that no one can really come in for him now that Kelly seems to stay crocked. Why I wouldn't mind seeing Illori/Flanno in just to see his reaction to being dropped.
