That's not exactly legal, you can't just drop someone's wage. It needs to be done in negotiation with both parties agreeing. I take it your company doesn't give a **** about employment law or your contracts aren't exactly 'set in stone'?

Then yes, you are in a difficult position. However, should you argue and lose your job despite being in the right, you could take it further but this not only takes time and money but also further enhances the current blame culture we have inherited from our yank cousins! Depends on your commitment/feelings towards the company. I wouldn't go down that route with my work as its a small charity and (I know this sounds like a cliche) we are all part of a small family so it wouldn't be right.
