Yeah............... it's a real cracker What on earth was he thinking? That's even worse than the Jamo one.
Chin up Pomps...win your game in hand at home to Wycombe and you would be a comfortable mid-table, only 4 points from the play-offs. This season was never going to be an easy one for you lot, but I honestly thought it would be a celebratory one considering your recent "troubles". I still reckon you'll come good at some point with a possible shot at the play-offs.
So annoyed at our performance yesterday, I couldn't be asked to comment until now. The only word that springs to mind to sum up our overall performance is CRAP One bit of interesting news, is that two people I spoke to after the match witnessed Martin "Mad Dog" Allen entering Fratton Park before kick off. Was he here merely as a guest being a former Pompey player, or was he here to discuss either (a) taking over from Guy, or (b) becoming Guy's assistant ? Anyone think he is capable of doing a good job at Fratton Park ?
Apparently he was seated on the Scunny side. They say they haven't received an application from him though. He wouldn't be there for anything to do with Guy - the board would never behave so crassly. I'd rather have potty cotty back than Martin Allen. Do you think Guy will still be manager by January?
I hope so, but I'm beginning to worry for his future. Our team did not perform for him yesterday, but then again, why start the match with Tom Craddock up front supported by Rickie Holmes, with neither being particularly tall, and then send over high crosses that went over their heads. Good tactics ? - nah.
I haven't been able to get to any games for the last couple of months so have had to listen to the Pompey Player commentary. Their take on it was that the players didn't seem to understand the formation/tactics they were being asked to play and finally reverted to a 4-4-2 - is that about right? Sounded to me as though they were panicking a bit hence the hoofing. Guy though needs to be a bit more animated on the sidelines - Appleton ended up standing there like a gargoyle, which might be an indication that they can't see why with all the training it's still going all to pot. I fear Guy's days are numbered now, the team was booed, the atmosphere was deathly quiet, and it's clear the fans are not happy.
the atmosphere was very muted for large parts of the game, when our goal went in it lifted every one.......for 10 mmins......then the inevitable crap defending. The scunny player ending in their corners was spot n, he hit his target pretty much every time, where as Holmes for us barely clears the first man! This is a division wheretactics and stability with in the team are worth points as well as goals.........consistancy is not our thing and it needs to be. Some one needs to take these players in hand and drill some basic footbal skills into them........starting with Ertl! as captain, he has to lead the way, he is not vocal enough and neither is carson, several times he came for balls Bondz had covered and several times our defenders put him (carson) under pressure he didnt need......... I except we are still work in progress, and I am not one of the minority demanding the play offs..........but I do demand 100% effort form a team......and I a not seeing that! I am a bit dismayed with comments in the snooze from GW that "our defence cost us" they did indeed make mistakes......but ultimately the team cost us, players are lacking in confidence, the captain cant lead and the manager is deploying the wrong tactics...they all take the blame in my book
Ertl seems to have lost confidence - I think he is aware of the criticism being levelled at him. According to Mark Catlin Dave Coles isn't just a keeper coach so hopefully he can do something with the defence as well. David Connolly seems to be very active giving comments to Guy during the games, but I do think Guy made a big mistake not bringing in a much more experienced second in command - his own record in management isn't very good apart from when he was joint manager with Stuart Gray. Do agree with you that they all take the blame for yesterday's game.
Young Steve Potts looked a lively player, and got forward when he could to provide backing to Andy Barcham. He must be wondering already what he has let himself in for. Joe Devera needs a spell on the bench to my mind, he seems completely out of sorts. Would rather see Danny East play at right back.
Totally agree Wooperts, Devera looked good 10 games back, but has lost his way like a few others, Bondz included. I want a captain to take control, your coaches and managers can do wonders during the week in training but ultimately rely ontheir players to do the right thing on game day, and your captain is the link for all that. We need a Tony Adams character, one of the best defenders there was............ big loud and took no nonsence! It will most likely come right, but the league is so tight, and bottom placed clubs are picking up points, we need to push on.
