How long does it take a player to adapt to a new league. He cant even complete a single pass.

it'd be nice if Lamela could have a run of a few games.

He has a blinder in europe, showing his skill and flair... then we don't see him for 3 weeks. He needed a premier league start after that europa performance and before the international break. It's too stop/start for him.

I've said all along that I knew nothing about the kid before we signed him, and so far it's not looking good. But he's not being helped in any way, shape or form.

Was Ronaldo a waste of money when he didn't dominate for United in his first 5 games? Gareth Bale wasn't a world star in a day and would you say he was a waste of money?
Lamela WILL come good. You can see he's got it and he has time on his side. He's not the player I'm worried about - the striker we spent almost the same amount on who doesn't have time on his side... :p

Bale was not our most expensive signing ever. And, contrary to popular myth, he was clearly class from the off. When he was 17 or 18 or whatever he was destroying Man Utd, Arsenal etc.

It's not being unfair to Lamela to say that he should not have cost anything close to 30m. We can't take 30m punts on players. Well, every transfer's a bit of a punt but kids from Argentina, via Italy who don't speak the language and, at 21, has only a handful of caps (and South American teams give out a lot of caps) is a bit of a long shot for your biggest fee in history. For that sort of fee I want one of Argentina's best players, not one of their emerging talent who comes off the bench for the national side now and again.

The problem we have is that we hardly buy top established players.
He was bought in mind of a huge profit in years to come , if he comes good.
Sadly this policy destroys Spurs as others can keep their stars and add quality to their teams year on.

Only if the team as a whole does not make the progression needed to halt this.
Which since getting that CL slot in 2010 has effectively been the problem.

Bale destroying us when he was 17/18? You are having a laugh. I remember him scoring a decent free kick in a game back in 2007, but that's all he did, as we destroyed you in that particular game. After that we only saw the best of Bale post 2010 against us.

Liverpool were ruthless with the want away Suarez.
Their steadfast approach (constant media pressure of "you cant keep unhappy players" , Suarez tantrums " )
and collective spirit for what's best for the club than one individual has to be applauded. They are reaping the rewards for not always taking the cash, as we do.

Not really. The only club who were after Suarez was us and because they saw us a rival, they decided not to sell, also the way we went about getting him was a mess. You did a similar thing with Modric when Chelsea wanted him. Levy refused to sell to a direct rival. If Madrid came in for Suarez last summer, Liverpool would have sold him.

Sorry, but the end of THIS season will be the proof of that. And just for reference ...

Summer 2011 : Modric wants away. Spurs have no CL etc.
Sep 1 2011 : Modric still a Spurs player. Chelsky unsettling fails to move Levy.
Summer 2012 : Spurs have no CL. Modric sold (after TWO successive summers of unsettling) ,

Lamela, Holtby and Eriksen all look ****. Three technical creative players. It's no coincidence these players mentioned struggle under AVB.

Lamela, Holtby and Eriksen may all struggle until Avb is gone.

Avb needs athletes like Bale, or Townsend. He loves these type of players as with all our defensive play he likes players cutting in and striking the ball.

Drifting slightly, but Kagawa at Utd, he's another creative player struggling as Moyes doesn't use him properly.

Lamela, Holtby, Eriksen and Kagawa could all be a waste of money but this doesn't mean they are bad players, it's more they either aren't suited to our league or play for the wrong team.

Oh God - I forgot some weird bastards like hanging out on other team's boards...

Well yes - what I said was an overstatement. But the fact is that he was 18, he was brand new to the EPL and he was looking very, very good against top opposition, scoring against a couple of the strongest teams in the league if not Europe from left back. Then he got injured. This is some way off the common misapprehension that he was dodgy for ages when he first joined. He did not look like a Chadli or a Lamela - he looked class.

(By the way, your question is so ******ed it's not worth addressing).

Not a waste of money, just wasted in a poor system by a poor manager.

  19. Today was an utter humiliation for the club. We looked deficient in every single department, and any idea that AVB has created a team that can even compete for top 4, let alone the title, is now exposed as being utterly laughable.

What AVB has done has failed to work, and he needs to change things. My fear, however, is that he will stubbornly persevere with the same old tactics and style of play that is currently making us the laughingstock of the Prem.
