I wouldn't say success cause you know they'll bring out the when did you last win a cup

I'd say we have a better reputation due to playing european football in the late 90's early 00's so we are a more recognised club on that account

There are some interesting observations on here regarding the original post.

However if I may offer my view which I think pretty much puts it in a nutshell.

We're good and Sunderland are ****e.

  9. We are the ****ing bigger club and even when we were in the CC we were bigger than you mate!!!

You may have had the better team for about two years from 08/09 - 09/10, but having the better team doesn't automatically make you a bigger club.

Why do you think we were still all over the news and on camera all the time? Because we're still recognised as a massive club, regardless of where we are, and people love us.

The fact that we Singed Ben Arfa first season up after relegation says it all really mate.

We're bigger than you and a more attractive club for most players, get over it.

In fairness thats a bit of a close minded view. They're a developing nation in football, but unlike England have qualified for the last 7 World Cups (once as hosts where they made the semi finals) and left last years at exactly the same stage as us against a strong and in form Uruguay side (and didn't concede 4 goals in that game...). Park Ji Sung is an outstanding player and a few others have done alright in the Premier League, theres nothing to say a 20 year old couldn't be quality. Unless you have to come froma strong footballing nation to be decent, what do you think George Weah?

to be honest, there was nothing between the teams that season either, sunderland finished a poor season in the prem and weren't far off relegation, we romped the championship, in fact, most teams and fans would prefer to play a struggling prem team to one who is sailing through the championship because the latter is probably stronger and more likely to win.

As I said, time and time again, the mackems will have to wait a few years, and see steady building during that time (which they aren't really), while we decline (which we are not really), in order to see real daylight between the two teams and be able to confidently claim to be NE top dogs. They collectively spurted too soon about this one and there has never really been much difference bewteen our sides during the last few years

We can attract players because as this generation of players were growing up, we were a top team and competing in Europe!

I think that's a bit of a misconception due to a lot of the media disliking Newcastle (either ignoring or criticising NUFC), and the northeast generally carrying a chip on its shoulder. But Newcastle United is a worldwide brand, and a lot of football fans have expressed pleasure in Newcastle returning to the Premier League, because they recognise how strong and loud supporters are, and historically what brand of football the club has played.
[Though I am coming from the perspective of someone who has only recently moved to Newcastle]

Yeah alot of people I know (at uni so lots of people from like London and Manchester are about) Newcastle is their second team, think its due to staduim and the era of the entertainers i.e players like Ginola

    would prefer Yung Ji-Mi.

Also, if he's Dong-Won's actually any good we'll definitely pull out the stops to sign him, potential cash cow.
